How about the same scene in both engines? Not a real comparison. This all depends on the artist.

I'm a Unity dev. I can say that Unreal Engine overcomes Unity (even using HDRP) in graphics because of the fidelity of lighting. But you can achieve the same result in both of course with a little more work with Unity and with custom shaders and maybe a custom Render Pipeline. For those who like "by default" Unreal wins without further discussion (photorealistic graphics by default). The advantage that Unity now has is that you can customize the Rendering Pipeline from scratch to what you want to achieve (summarizing you have more control, which is useful for multiplatform games with different hardware).

Unity looks fantastic but Unreal just can't be beaten, Unreal looks better than real life in some of these demos.

im an unity developer and all i have to say is that all you guys that comment this video are just talking about graphics, and its not all about graphics!

And what we got today ? Mobile games from Unity, and soap games from UE4 and sometimes with extra bad optimization.
If professionals use any of this engines, they get the same(good) quality and performance in most time.
But proffesional studios often create and use own engines.
My non-professional verdict: Both engines are equally cool. And hey, developers! I wait Third Person RPG games from you.

Now, if only Bethesda either overhauled their engine to match these, or just use these engines altogether for their games. Why can't we have nice things? I know, because greed, greed never changes.

for me the best are Substance Painter-Designer, and Megascan the real tools behind those game engines, in any case you should compare the same scene with the FPS to understand which engine is the best and how much

Fortnite looks like it was made on unity by the graphics, but apparently it’s on unreal

Outdoor scenes:
Unreal: showing close-ups of models with high detail and beautiful lighting.
Unity: showing a TONNE of models at once with incredible quality and beautiful lighting.
Completely different things.

Characters:
Unreal: Incredible models were shown with beautiful STATIC lighting.
Unity: Poorly animated (relatively to current 2018 triple A's) character is shown with dynamic lighting.
Completely different things. Put those models in Unity and use new HDRP + post-processing stack and you'll get nearly the same results.

Indoor scenes:
This is the most fair comparison so far, yet still not completely.
Both textures and models were created by different artists with different quality.

Effects:
Unreal: Beautiful lighting and post-processing.
Unity: New particle system demonstration.
Completely different things.

Conclusion: unfair comparison.

It's despicable seeing how you jump on the YouTube bandwagon and created this "comparison". THIS IS NOT A COMPARISON.

Tip: Try to actually put some work in such video by doing a step-by-step comparison within the editor instead of showing off someone else's work!

Unreal has better graphics but Unity feels smoother and more polished. Unreal can look amazingly photorealistic in some scenes, but there's just something that makes it feel fake. Unity, on the other hand, can create a stylized world that doesn't feel real but just has some fantastic lighting and effects. I personally prefer Unity because it has a smoother workflow and better performance but if I wan more experienced and if Unreal had better performance and fewer bugs, I would definitely use it.

I am glad that both these engines exist. Amazing how far they have come in the last few years, but also kudos to the artists that make these scenes, it takes a lot of effort and skill to make it look this good.

I think a more fair comparison would be the process, not the outcome. The visual results were just flip-flopping back and forth. They both look great, but which is easier to use to get that outcome?

I'm 32 years old. I can remember when we had just gotten the NES and SuperNES. Can't we all just be excited for the future again and all admit that these graphics are fantastic?

Looks are just a part of what makes it realistic, how you interact with these photorealistic virtual worlds is equally or perhaps even more important than looking real...

Unreal gets my vote always. I remember been told in 1980's that a computer will never be able to replicate water, fire and clouds.... Wanna bet I thought. I think I was right : )

You just made a comparison between different fucking artists. The only way to compare engines is to recreate literally the same scenes using the same assets in both.
