The team I work on has consistently tested UE for VR every 3-6 months and we still find it coming up short in comparison, which has always pained me as an artist 😂

Oof, with Unity's new pricing plan I think Unreal might be the better way to go now.

I chose Unity to make my Halo VR fan game and whilst I don’t regret my chose as unity is the engine I’ve been using for the longest, I do wonder how much better looking it might be if I was to have made it on Unreal instead

And Unity can and will change the money you have to pay them through complicated licensing fees if you are ever successful where as Unreal has always had one straightforward policy and it only kicks in after you make your first million. Unity is remarkably more easy to use, especially with C#, but who knows if your favorite module will be deprecated or put on the back burner because a new CEO wants to squeeze nickels out of the user? (I am looking at you ML Agents and AI technology) Since they went public and it's all about squeezing money out for the shareholders, it's become a crapbag.

Thats untrue u can make unreal engine apps for vision pro. Its just that apple does not advertise thhe fact because of reasons

I wonder how important that vr features lead will be when these new price hikes for game installs drops into people's inboxes. Unreal already has foveated rendering so it's not that far behind imho. And Unity seems to have their fees changing every year but with unreal I don't pay anything on the first million in revenue. That's a pretty big pull for me and I don't mind if a few features are missing or if I cannot develop on a £3000 Apple product because the quest 3 and other vendors will do tens of millions of sales and that is where the users will be.

You can make apps for VisionOS with Unreal...
Also being ahead in the VR space is subjective when everything for unity is either deprecated or experimental, and all the buggy script kiddie crap on the asset store doesn't count.

One isn't better, they are different tools for different purposes

Unity has always been behind in technological progression. What they showed off at siggraph was underwhelming to say the least. Chat gpt powered dialogue that Youtubers have been using in unreal for months, mid animation tools and dont even get me started on their lackluster render engine lol that being said they still offer the most tools for  integration. However the vision api has already been implemented into UE 5.3 and with the new install fiasco with unity its a HARD pass. And ue doesnt take a cut until you hit 1m so doesnt apply to small devs at all.

Unity is better for game development if your a beginner. Unreal is a bit complex if you ask me.

I mean unreal has now a beta support i think for apple vision pro so Unity bye bye. And if none of us make vr in unreal, unreal might not get there, as a community, unreal should be supported too i think

HDRP also has incredible visuals, possible for PCVR.
Nanite and Lumen until now are too heavy to run in VR from my testing (30fps on an rtx 3060 mobile with just basic objects)
