What's the most you've paid for a meal?

Verbal harassment and a pickle, the two best sides for a sandwich indeed

Buy yourself 1 Lb of Boarshead pastrami ($12), 1 loaf of Jewish rye bread ($4) and 1 jar guldens mustard ($3)
Make yourself several great sandwiches !

I really kinda hate places like this. They have all the “vibe” of a cheap neighborhood deli but none of the accessibility of one. All pretense.

To be clear to any tourist who is 50/50 about $30 sandwich. It’s not worth it, not even close, it’s great yeah but there are A LOT of delis doing better pastrami for a fraction

I might be remembering wrong, but I recall it costing about $18 a few years back, which is still a lot for a sandwich, but back then there was *some* bang to that buck.

If the "experience" is part of a price tag, that shit aint worth it. At all.

Life long New Yorker here, never went to Katz. Mostly cause Pastrami isn't my thing, but I'd still eat here if I felt like it. Probably just once. It's worth it because of how hype it is and it does look banging. But at the same time, NYC has so much other delicious stuff to eat that's cheap. Or something even more expensive. Whatever you want.

The pastrami sandwich is $22.95. It's more if you ask for lean or extra lean, fatty/juicy is free. Club roll is an extra 50 cents I think.

Get the fatty pastrami on club, heavy mustard both sides, with sours and (pickled) tomatoes. (Half sours are for not me.) Fries or stuffed derma or soup if you must. Dr Brown's sodas, black cherry or cream soda or Cel-Ray tonic, as you like. The meal is 30, the sandwich is not 30. You can also get a half sandwich and a soup for about the same price.

Keep in mind, I believe the portion is 3/4 of a pound of meat. Open since 1888, they must be doing something right. Sadly, there used to be a lot more competition in this space, Jewish deli popularity has declined.

I didn’t think $30 was worth it until I tried making corned beef myself. Not to mention pastrami is even more labor intensive than corned beef. To any average consumer who is judging this price, just know that this sandwich takes an enormous amount of effort to make even though it may not look like it does.

I love Katz’s. It’s worth it if you’re new. It’s a special experience.

Hell yes.
1lb of mass produced grocery store pastrami would cost at least $10.
For $30 you get the real deal. on bread. and pickle. Plus served to you. Plus seating. Plus experience.
