Hyundai i30 Sedan 2024 review | Updated Toyota Corolla and Kia Cerato rival tested

The 2024 Hyundai i30 Sedan has quietly arrived in Australian showrooms, offering small-car buyers an updated sedan option that's looking to overtake the Toyota Corolla and Kia Cerato in the dwindling four-door segment. So, what does the revised South Korean model have to offer?

Well, the i30 Sedan now has refreshed exterior styling, but the big news is the availability of a 'self-charging' hybrid powertrain for the first time. The series-parallel set-up combines a 1.6-litre petrol four-cylinder engine AND a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with an electric motor.

But in this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Emily Agar spends a week behind the wheel of the i30 Sedan's unnamed entry-level variant, which, in this instance, is powered by a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol four-cylinder engine with a new CVT. Of course, the N Line alternative ushers in a 1.6-litre turbocharged unit with a seven-speed DCT.

I would be surprised if it didn't have Sport mode as it's sister company, with the Cerato, does. But I guess all the sport features may be saved for a 2-door version.

At 4:20 of the video is reported that car has 16.7 cubic feet or 474 liters of trunk or boot space. This is the typical FAKE GOURMET sedan, the one that comes ready to be swallowed by an SUV. In the ranking of decent sedans (TOP 500 SEDANS) with a trunk capacity above 500 liters or 17.6 cubic feet it does not enter.
