Huge props for taking the time to experiment with this! That's some real dedication and most channels wouldn't bother!

You’re a champion Paul, the way you actually engage with your viewers and research what they comment. I wonder if this octane learning curve also works on other N or N Line vehicles.

I’m looking forward to your review on the Sonata N Line, and see how that compares to the i30N/i30 Sedan N.

Would be awesome if you post a drag race between the cars, I’m surprised no channel has posted a drag race between the two, it’s almost as if Hyundai doesn’t want car channels to do so.

Thanks for revisiting this Paul. I was reading my manual the other day and I think it does octane learning cycles at various stages thoughout the fuel tank usage as well

Now i've got one of my own, just the same as the one in this video. It's just run in, has had 98RON since day one and the max boost is 15psi. So I take back my suggestion below that it will learn and adapt itself. Now i've got to travel 25km to get to the nearest and only road that I should be able to set the cruise on 115kph for over 5min in 8th gear without having it messed up, after topping up the tank of course.
I can only hope that Hyundai give us a patch to stop us needing to go through this pantomime in the future.

Thanks Paul for doing this test. Thanks to that I just found it in my owners manual.

Thank you for doing this video. It makes such a difference. Appreciate you guys and your channel for this. You're probably the first and only ones to have made a video about this. Now add in ngs, and it should be just at if not a little below the advertised 0-100kph number.

Great Paul for the redoing the test. Process is a bit frustrating

Actually reading comments and giving the audience what they want. 10/10 stuff, CE!

I don’t understand why Hyundai made it so difficult to activate. You literally have to break the speed limit on the motorway in most of Australia, and then next thing you know it’s reset anyway. Probably just going to get a tune since it’s such a pain, shame I have to risk voiding warranty to get what the car offers (when it feels like it) stock. I always fill up with 98 just give me the boost. 😢

So you turn up at the lights, look across at your opponent, and have to shout out that you will race them in 15 minutes or so after you go for a cruise down the highway, wait here. What a feature! Why aren’t all sports cars like this?

Good to know, I 'll get my learner drivers to try this out in the dual-control Sedan N! ;D

We need to retest… after octane learned you didn’t use the NGS overboost button. There is another 2/10th to come off… so procedure is octane learn for 5 mins, then activate launch control, then hit NGS and your away! I know ridiculous

As a fellow Elantra N owner, octane learning is soon to make me a former Elantra N owner. My OCD is through the roof and I cannot stand it.

Renault sport cars have a similar function. There is a parameter called slow knock timing correct. It resets back to zero if you cruise between 70-90 kph for a few minutes in top gear.

What I would like to know is will it up boost if you use E85. Most tuned cars run E85 as it is less prone to detonation, so you can put more timing in. Knock sensors take timing out. I wonder if the computer is actually trying to safely provide power.

Would be good if it stayed learned for the whole tank but it constantly unlearns itself multiple times throughout. What’s worse is apparently the learned state isn’t extra power but only the 206kw Hyundai advertises, so the majority of the time when you’re driving around with 15-16psi its only about 180-190kw

It does say it's for 'quick' learning after filling with higher octane fuel. That suggests it will learn either way and there's no reason it should revert unless lower octane is added. Nothing else makes sense.

Saabs own "Trionic5" inhouse engine management did this back in 1993.
