Nerve Pain or Neuropathy and SSDI Claims

Показать описание
Are you applying for Social Security disability benefits based on nerve pain or neuropathy? While pain is a factor in many different types of SSDI or SSI claims, my experience has been that disability judges are very often receptive to nerve pain cases.

As discussed in this video, severe nerve pain often arises from significant medical problems - conditions that include:
diabetes
HIV/AIDS
herniated disc
spinal stenosis
autoimmune diseases

Or nerve pain may be idiopathic, meaning that there is no definitive cause.

Whatever the reason for your nerve pain, you will need a clear strategy to convince a Social Security judge that you meet SSA’s definition of disability. I hope this video helps you better understand what the judge is looking for and what evidence you will need.

I just had a hearing with a judge(over the phone because of Covid-19) in October & just got my denial letter a few days ago . I was also represented with an attorney who did not represent me at all (My opinion) He was the 3rd attorney assigned within the law firm that I chose & the only contact I had with any of them was the 3rd attorney 3wks before my hearing by a phone call about 10 minutes long explaining very little of the actual hearing phone call. I immediately typed in YouTube on how to answer questions for a disability hearing & all your videos came up . Needless to say I learned more from watching your videos than my attorney on how to answer questions that would be asked. This video I just watched made me realize (I’m not sure why I do run across this one before) that I will need to do the nerve test because that is what my main complaint is from, spinal stenosis, I had symptoms overnight in 2018 with my back & all of a sudden I couldn’t walk on my own so over months of therapy, MRI’s, etc. I had a spinal laminectomy on L3, 4, 5 & s1 which got me off the walker but now I have heaviness & weakness in both legs & tingling & sensation numbness in the lower part of my legs & feet. I also have fallen ( multiple times) because of my legs being heavy & weak. Thank you for me seeing this video tonight which means I need to have the nerve test done. My doctors have offered the test but stated it won’t fix anything & said it is very painful. Looks like I need this done so a judge can see that my pain is legit & hopefully I can find a good, local, attorney that will fight for me .

I’ve had neuropathy in my hands and feet almost from the beginning of my MS diagnosis. I’m so used to it, it didn’t even occur to me that it is an MS symptom. It has gone from a consistent 4 to now a level 8 constantly. This gives me good insight into answering this question effectively without sounding like a whiner.

Thank you for your efforts in making these videos, much appreciated ! I just received a letter from SSI for the first time in over 10 yeaRS, I never even knew there would be any reviews at all, and it scared me when I saw it. but your videos have helped me understand I clearly do fit in the Disabled category ! I can barely walk to my Dr's office and it's only 100 yd's from my apt!

I go through this every single day. I can't even walk as good as I use to. The pain is awful.

Looks like I may win my case this upcoming April, I have nerve pain. It's very active daily. I'll have to concentrate really hard just to stay my shift even for a sit down job. This video is very assuring. I've suffered very long not only physically, and mentally, but financially.

Thank you for this. Ive dealt with what my doc believes as neuropathy and body pain for over 20 years and now im getting older i can't handle working. Im always in pain daily. I get bad flares at least once a week that puts me curled up in my bed for a couple days. I got reprimanded at work because I have a hard time concentrating and following through with what I need to do because I'm hurting 24 7. I also have a back injury and my left shoulder and arm have pins and needles feelings. Im currently on FMLA hoping to get in as many doctor visits in.

Thank you Jonathan for the great advice, I'm just starting my application, I'm making appointment to apply this month. I'm a former LTD adjuster so I knew get my own records, more than once I denied someone because I was waiting to long for crucial evidence. I have Parkinson's, Stenosis, herniations.. Got FCE from Neurologist. Hoping for the best, I'm in NY. I spoke with you around 6mos ago, I sure wish your practice area was NY.

I certainly agree with a couple of others said - definately more difficult than some people make out to treat neuropathy at home.
Be cautious and seek advice from other people. I searched many websites and found a lot of great help by searching google on sites such as Gabs Neuro Guide. Good luck and hope you succeed!

I have MS and it morphed into Trigeminal Neurolgia, RT side of face, jabbing pain behind eye socket and down side of face and jaw, it is a 24/7 pain of course I have many other issues from MS that prevents working, dealing with it for over 30 years, help is hard to find.
Been through all disability process, denied all the way through, now starting completely over and refiling, i have no choice, 57 yo, worked my whole life in severe pain. I have an attorney and I'm still getting denied.
Pisses me off, so I don't know I'm just gonna keep filing until I get it even if it takes 10 years.
Come on SS you need to severely help us people who really need it, I'm ready to lose my home, this really sux bad for so many who really need it.
Thanks for the vids John.
Haven't even gotten any stimulus check either and did everything right.

Thank you for the video I have a hearing in the morning I have small fiber neuropathy, bought on by celiac disease. And some psych problems.. I am so nervous but I’m hoping it goes in my favor.
I used to work on chevys. I loved it, and everytime I worked I got hurt, one time I stressed out so bad I got a kidney stone because I thought drinking green tea would help me calm down lol... selling off my tools made my pain and my moods go out of control. I hope I can get some help until I get better and thank you again for the videos.. ❤️

I am a 28 year old woman who has had Trigeminal Neuralgia for over three years, and in that time it has completely taken over my life. It’s a rare and chronic horrible facial pain disorder. I finally have my hearing next Tuesday. Thank you for this video, it made me feel much more secure in how to convey my illness to the ALJ.

This is very good advice as I went through this getting my disability. But not no mention for those who may have pain but still fit the ability physically to work. I wanted to work but no one would ever hire me because of my back injuries and surgical implants in my lower lumbar and cervical spine. A person can be able to work but pose such a risk for employers that they become unemployable. This was my case I was only 36 when I had my accident and spine surgery was successful other than the constant pain and stiffness that comes with that surgery. But as soon as you disclose to an employer that you have had spine surgery you become a risk and can become a liability to their buisness. Therefore no one would in right mind hire a person with certain types of injuries this needs to be discussed concerning SSDI.

I have daily nerve pain from two ulnar nerve surgeries on my left arm. The first surgery was a ulnar nerve release and the second surgery was a transposition. Nothing like being sick to your stomach and wanting to vomit from the pain.

And very often the drugs that are used to treat the pain (Gabapentin/Neurontin) leave you feeling like a zombie, so it's a trade off. You can have less pain and sit around all day in a daze or you can accept it and perhaps use natural remedies like yoga and a good cannabis cream.
