You a crazy!!!! So long metal without rear center!!!! You a lucky man.. and use a cutter? Really? Go, and read an instuction!

Hint; DON'T turn the lathe off with the cutter still in contact with the work.

Just a suggestion for anyone getting a mini-lathe with the sheet metal backsplash on it. This doesn't really scale down well from a larger lathe and makes it difficult to work around the chuck, clean, and so forth. It can make thing less crowded and open things up to just remove it. If you absolutely must have a backsplash, you can fashion one that is free standing and even movable and place it a little further back from the lathe.

I have never used one of these machines but my stomach turned as soon as I started see the video.
I felt in my gut that something was awfully wrong. Reading the comments below confirmed my fears.
I learned a lot, really.

This video is a Darwin award in the making. I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when he tried turning with a parting tool, fortunately he sped the spindle up so the torture would be over faster. He then stored the key in the chuck for a special surprize. I could go on but I feel sick reliving the things I saw in this video.

*YIKES*
I was poking so hard at my PC monitor with one hand and punching my keyboard with the other hand at everything wrong in this dangerous video that I broke my screen and my keyboard!!! *HOLY FIRED*

The "Packing Shim" under the turning tool needs to be further forward (nearer to the tool tip) Otherwise the tool can Vibrate (Chatter) & Always disengage the Feed (Traverse) before stopping the Chuck.

I used to have an EMCO Compact 8, it is one of the best small lathes one can get.. if you want smaller, get either the proxxon or an EMCO Compact 5.. i have a Compact 5 CNC now, and i use it to make titanium watches.
I also bought an EMCOturn 120 which is quite a different machine alltogether.. it is a slantbed CNC lathe with an 8 position Toolchanger.. and a 2.2Kw spindelmotor.. the thing is a beast!..

Please use the tailstock, a centre drill really doesn’t take much time and you’ll get a much safer and less sketchy experience

I am no PRO in machining, so forgive me if I might be wrong, but there were a few things that I did experience:
1) If some metal working machine is rattling and screaming at you THEN YOU ARE DOING SOMETHING WRONG! ( 5:13 )
2) Use proper speeds, cutting depths and for god's sake use cutting-fluid/ coolant/ oil!
3) Never have unsupported hangover of more than let's say 10cm ( 3:30 or very extreme at 23:00 ) as this will give you rattling and screaming (see above!) and rattling marks! Use the center bore and tailstock to support the material! I wonder very much how the EMCO Compact 8 did succeed in not rattling at all with that unsupported hangover!
4) Never turn on the lathe if your cutting tool has almost reached the steel you work at! if the cutting edge will hit the slightly excentric workpiece with a to big cutting depth it will damage your cutting tool, your workpiece or maybe even the lathe.
5) Never stop the machine with the cutting edge still touching your subject of work! (It will leave marks on your work in best case, in worst case it might damage your cutting tool/ break edges off ( 5:37 ) Always lift your cutting tool first OFF from your work, then stop rotation!
6) Never turn on and get it to high RPMs when no material is clamped into the chuck as the clamping jaws might go out of the chuck from centripetal force and fly right into your face!
7) You did demonstrate the safety feature of the Proxxon lathe but then a bit later did succeed in leaving the key in the chuck!? WOW!!!! Congratulations for the darwin award!
8) NEVER do work with the gearing box or belt-drive-system-box open of a lathe or mill. If you get your fingers or clothing into the gears or belts then you will lose fingers or more!
9) Why did you always switch off the proxxon lathe by opening the chuck shield? Do you want to grab into the rotating parts? Use the on-off switch! That's what it is for.
10) It would have been a good idea if you would have read the book from the proxxon lathe BEFORE judging it's quality, then you would have known a lot things about using a lathe and I bet you would have avoided a lot of mistakes from my listing above (which definitely is not completely listing all things)!

As simple as it may be to your many subscriber's, I am just now understanding some of the mark's made by milling machines. I don't have experience, so this is new to me. Thank you!

Despite this blokes failings.
Good video to show the size, what you get etc.
Informative.🤔🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Sorry but that looks like a parting tool for cutting off length of bar.

I watched the vid, from behind my sofa. Some bits frightened me to death, having worked in a machine shop, you are aware of what can go wrong.

Замечательные станки, только вот владельцы станков ничего не смыслят в металлообработке! 😄

Very instructive!! We learned how to turn the power switch 2 dozen times and how to engage the auto feed. I feel so much smarter now. Plus I learned that the 3 to 5 diameters stick out is an old wife tale.
