I wish it wasn't so true... I have a caseless computer with no power switch that I use a screwdriver to turn on and a standless monitor because I had to move and didn't have enough space to take the stand with me.
the computer also has no integrated graphics and the cheapest gpu I could find has a dual dvi-d so I have a splitter going in with only one attached. and since it's open I obviously don't manage the cables

After i made my new pc from an old one that was a small form factor type, i ditched the case and bought a full size gpu and a power supply and this is litteraly my setup (i use arch btw)

How about a UPS made from old car batteries ?
A used 4k TV makes a great monitor for doing stuff.
I got one out of the trash and replaced the LED backlights for $37.
