As a retired pilot i have encountered moderate wake turbulence during my career, which made me wonder what would be the best way to react if you suddenly find yourself rolling uncontrollably after takeoff or shortly before landing, and devised an escape theory that I fortunately have never had to resort to. Still, I would like to run it past you:
If you find yourself suddenly starting to roll, you will instinctively counter with full opposing aileron. If that is not enough, pull carefully back on the yoke to get out of the core of the vortex. Even if you have already rolled 90° you have a good chance of escaping the core sideways, which would be better than rolling inverted and going straight into the ground. Obviously you are at a critical stage, with your airspeed down to Vs x 1.3 so you have to use the elevator gently, but if you manage to escape the center of the vortex core the roll rate should decrease dramatically and your aileron input has a much better chance of coping with the roll rate.
Untried, but food for thought...

Great video :)

Can you please make a video where you could talk about problems you ran into while flying? Not necessarily problems, but scenarios and different flights that you feel made you more confident and more experienced?

Thank you!

Air Crash Investigation is the best program out there! Like who agree.

I too like watching the investigations, I think it's so smart how they figure out what has happened, very sad when these things happen and lives lost, heroes too when they manage to save the aircraft. Another video suggestion, plane stall ? Why it happens, how it happens, ways to avoid, and how you deal with it ? Also like someone else said maybe a video on any personal experiences. Keep up the great work, nearly at 17, 000 subs ✈️

I always enjoy your videos! This very subject came up in a check ride I just had well watching this video really drove home the info. I appreciate the time you take to produce these videos. And I hope when I get to the point I get my first training captain in line training he is as proficient as you are in these videos. One suggestion for a video if I may is one on check rides and what to expect. I was more nervousnes going into my first check ride then anything I experienced in the marine corps. Well il wrap this up got more studying todo for this up coming week happy flying!

Very useful thank you. I am looking into airline landing and capacity planning algorithms, and building into that wake vortex categorisation of aircraft.

Hi there I am from the UK and would like to ask your opinion on the subjects I have chosen for A level:

I choose to study:
Use of Maths
Physics
Computing
Electronics

All are A level and seem to combine nicely.

I have always wanted to become a pilot and would one day love to be in the hot seat of a A380-800. My dream is to work for Emirates or any other middle eastern airline as I feel the Middle East is the most excitingly developing place in the world to be in.

Your videos are really informative and very well presented. You deserve a lot more recognition for aspiring and hopeful pilots like myself.

Keep up the good work!!!

Even the Hurricane Hunter don't go through the bad Thunderstorm when they are going in hurricane. They may be a little nuts to fly into a hurricane but they are not crazy enough to hit go into the Thunderstorms. I am happy that they do go in the hurricane! That gives me days to get ready for the storm if it is coming here to Florida!

I have experienced wake turbulence only last month. I was in an A319 going to London and in our approach our plane just randomly banked left and then right very fast and dangerously. Everyone in the cabin was all scared but a few moments later the pilot came on the pa and was like sorry about that. They said we were 12 miles behind an A380 and even from that distance we managed to still get hit by their wake.

You should share your own experiences along with the explanation. I'm sure you'd have some interesting stories!

Ah wondered why on some ATC conversations I heard "Cleared to land, Caution wake Turbulence" or something along those lines

Thanks for the great video. Good pieces of info there. Could you please do a video explaining the difference between an Open Descent and a Managed Descent? Thank you
