As he said it himself "when you lose a leg, it's gonna cost you a leg"

Thank you so much for saying this. My dads leg has been a fight my entire life and people constantly act like its no big deal and if i just try harder I coukd get him some super fancy prosthesis that would improve things when really its been completely outside our reach for many reasons but finances/insurance being #1. He then got cancer again (a totally different type) like you and so that then took over the focus. Recently his prosthesis snapped and we are now managing with the base of an office chair that I modified the wheels and me pushing him around when necessary. Inside the house it works great at least and is far less painful than his prosthesis. Everything about the process of getting and maintaining a prostethic leg is so much more work than people realize and understandable my dad is too ill and exhausted to fight the system himself. This video was very much appreciated! Im beyond thrilled you have such a great prostethic leg and it brings us some hope but the fact you are informing people that your situation is not the norm and about the struggle you went through to get where you are now really helps everyone.

The insurance that my mom and i have, her friend also has. She asked me how much my wheelchair was because she was looking to get one. She's an above the knee amputee, and after several years her prosthetic was in rough shape and didn't fit her well anymore. Turns out, our insurance covers a single prosthetic per *lifetime*. And its cheaper for her to get a chair like my $6, 000 custom than to get a new prosthetic out of pocket. Its super messed up

Not to mention the supply costs.
A Liner is 1k you need two.
Socks 60 a piece, you typically start out with six.
Liner-Liners are 30 each, you need seven.
Gators are 600. You need at least four.
Insurance only pays for supplies once a year, but the supplies don't last a year.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if everyone who loses a limb could have this kind of assisting limb. Thank you Alex for bringing this issue to the public's awareness.

the fact you have to pay so much money for a prosthetic that helps you gain more control of yourself again is ridiculous in my opinion, like over 100 grand is just so much

Imagine someone calling you ''pay to win'' because you need a prosthetic leg 💀

I love how you're describing disability as a video game being on hard mode, that's how I've always seen it too

Should come with preprogrammed dance moves for the cost. Maybe a upgrade at a later time.

It's the game that insurance plays all the time with everything. Big pharm and big insurance are the same. Both of them are in it to make money. Which isn't bad, but how much profit is enough? Something to think about 🤪

Now imagine beinging sentenced to death because your parents couldn't afford the surgery or medication.

Health insurance in many parts of the world has its ups and downs. But, the fact that a number of people die because they can't afford medical care or medicine is ridiculous.

In the case of National Health, receive subpar health care because the system is so overwhelmed.

Health care systems are so messed up. If it weren't for my father being in the military, my birth would have footed our family with a bill of a hundred thousand something.

I would not have blamed them if they left me to die in order to not pay it.

I’ve been enjoying your content, delivery and vibe, sir - fascinating and uplifting 👍🏿

Having recently become eligible for the rather Byzantine system known as Medicare (I spent 41 years in Information Technology - programmer, Unix Sysadmin, DBA; IT was far less complicated) - I’ve come to the conclusion that I should try to be assimilated by the Borg, as they’d probably replace my hips and knees - and that would be easier 😛

As a wise man once said, "This is America". I wish no one had to deal with that especially after amputating a limb.

That prosthetic leg is awesome. They have come a long way from what they use to look like. 😊
