Basically if the insurance company is a friend with a manufacturer. They cover it. And to hell with people's needs.

Yep. I'm disabled (not an amputee tho) and the surgery I needed last fall got denied by our insurance company because they deemed it "not medically necessary." My hip was dislocating on a regular basis literally just standing up. (Which risks nerve and blood vessel damage, can lead to amputation). We had to switch insurances, and our new one approved it.

I’ve heard of instances where insurance doesn’t even cover getting a prosthetic leg for walking because it’s “not necessary”

“insurance and disability don’t really get along”
I haven’t heard something truer in my life. I was diagnosed with severe hearing loss at 13, so I needed hearing aids, that go for +$15, 000. Insurance apparently doesn’t count hearing as a necesssity because they outright would not pay for it. My family couldn’t afford it so I went through middle and high school not being able to hear 🎉YAY🎉

I absolutely hate insurance companies and the grip they have over everything in America. My doctor tried prescribing me medicine which i need to be able to function like a regular human being, but the insurance company stepped in and was like “HA you don’t need that medicine which will improve your quality of life and not make you commit toaster bath. Take this one that doesn’t work and has a multitude of side effects instead, you need that one.” Im in a constant state of ‘who the actual fuck are they.’ How can they think they know what I need with absolutely NO prior medical knowledge or just knowledge about my lifestyle in general. Miserable, greedy bastards. all of them

I helped make my best friend his prosthetic leg, i 3D printed it and used whatever mechanical parts I could, made it based off of the runner prosthesis I saw during and Olympic event. Over the years he got more legs but every time he moved apartments he always had the one I made him.

Same thing for my mother, had to go through a third party to get her prosthetic leg. When she finally passed we were able to donate back to the disabled community. We have to help each other when it comes to health, big companies want you to pay an arm and a leg for … an arm or leg.

Bruh I feel this 100%. There’s a surgery with an extremely high success rate that would based improve my GOL by a lot considering my vision is piss poor and somehow the insurance says it’s “cosmetic????

I bet they made that for about 200. The profits are outrageous.
