plastic is fantastic...

I broke the forearm band to my prosthetic hand today unloading something from the back of my truck today. and for the rest of the day, every time i closed my hand it pinched my arm. it sucks when something that you depend on fails you. back to the drawing board.

Rather it break than rip your arm off when it gets caught on something

Looks straight out of cyberpunk, looks badass bro.

MIPS or HIPS plastic might be a good candidate to replace the forearm part, maybe even polyester being that it's fairly tough also.

Do metal with a leather overlay, should still be pretty comfy I'd imagine

I'd love to see this prosthetic with piano black gloss pieces or polished pieces and a clean strap, so it will look amazing when you're wearing a suit.

I'd go for a nylon/kevlar strap if it was me, similar to my bicycle tires which are pretty damn tough.

That’s a shame but I’m also excited to see you work through this and adapt.

i may not have the knowhow and setup for it, but have you considered using something similar to lost wax casting for some 3D printed parts? having the ability to test print and fit pieces before needing to fully commit to a design is definitely my favorite part of printing. hope this could help, your videos are definitely part of my reason for getting into engineering later in life!

I'd guess if it was mold injected rather than 3d printed it could be tougher, as well as reinforced with fibers or metal inserted into the mold prior to injecting. Though it would be expensive to buy or make a plastic injection machine and molds just for a few parts.
Machining the part from a single chunk of plastic could potentially work, given the right material.

What about composites? You could try making it out of fiberglass, time consuming, yes, but it's light and could be quite durable with the right resin.

Hope they improve prosthetic hands because those can solve a lot of serious problems and I don’t see how people without real hands can stand living without them

If it makes you feel any better in all honest you made it as durable as it could be, i know this is an old video but man, this design is just insane and i love keeping uo with it

There are definitely benefits to having certain parts made of polymer. It doesn't corrode as easily and less expensive to replace.

Is it possible to put a fiber or metal weave in the plastic to give it structural integrity?

Thought about composites? Can shape and reinforce in such a way to flex and resist the way you need it to

I recommend HP MJF Nylon Pa12. Its what we use

The forearm portion of the device needs to be comfortable yet strong. I might suggest a leather strap, with an integration of a Kevlar over the top for the connection of the metal and to hold it. I think you would find it more comfortable and durable.
