What is zero waste? #shorts

Food waste is a major problem in today's society. According to the United Nations, more than half of all food waste is generated at home.

It takes a lot of energy and water to grow, harvest, transport and package food which means when we waste food, we also waste all those resources. Because landfills are designed for storage, not decomposition, organic waste cannot be broken down but it constantly release methane, a more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide!

Most people don't really think about what happens to the food they put in the trash “it's organic, it will biodegrade!” but It is estimated that up to 10% of greenhouse gas emissions originate from food loss and waste.

“We are trashing our land to grow food that no one eats.” – Tristram Stuart.

One thing I’ve learned by growing vegetables myself is you don’t wanna waste it when you put so much effort to grow them! Literally

I work in the produce department in Walmart and I completely agree. Our produce and meat waste is off the charts

I agree. I’ve been becoming more aware of how much I waste lately. Stopped buying so much at once & now buy just enough for what I know I’ll consume. Can’t wait to have the space to grow my own & give away any extras.

I’m traveling to Denmark to study food sustainability soon. Combating food waste is my passion, and I’m glad there are likeminded people out here. Keep doing what your doing ❤

Making it easier for Colleges, restaurants etc to donate food without so much red tape and liability would help. I remember working a head position at a prestigious College in catering, fresh bar and vegan dishes. I pushed so hard for our large bins of good food, never on buffet or touched just over prep to be brought to the homeless shelter. The policy was you dump after 3days. Wouldn’t budge. It was SO frustrating. Students would dump so much leftovers in the trash on their way out. That was probably my worst food waste to witness. I was raised by a Great Depression survivalist Grandmother, we don’t waste.

When I was homeless some grocery stores would give me free food because "it didn't look right" it wasn't even bruised.

This guy is my favourite channel on YouTube right now hands down. Just got my certification in horticulture and botany and this guy is a garden GURU. Such a brilliant mind when it comes to finding different ways to have 0 waste weather in your garden or your home. I hope this man gets the recognition he deserves!!

This is definitely education that should be taught in our schools. Instead of the outdated education they keep teaching these kids year after year they should truly change the curriculum according to today's world. We have destroyed our land and water and the younger generation will be left to clean it up.

Let’s not forget that the majority of food waste doesn’t happen on the consumer level, it happens before the food even hits the shelves.

We do need to do better. Especially America. This channel is underrated seriously. ❤❤

This is one of the reasons why I started to grow our own food. Even though our soil is hard clay, nutrient deficient, and I don't have enough knowledge about soil improvements, composting or growing in genral, I still try my best and watch and gather as many info and tips as I can - on op of working a 9-5 job. I am so thankful I came across your channel, dear spicymoustache sir. Loving this channel even more because of the catto 😻 ❤

Myself is guilty of food waste as well as most people in the over abundance. As a gardener it doesn’t go to waste. It goes into my compost bins to feed my soil for future growth. As far as food going to the landfill, maybe it will balance out the amount of plastics made from oil. People want to go green, but also live in a throwaway society. People are lost to our ways, and because of it they will have hard times.

Actually this reminds me thtat a long time ago people used to spend 70% of their salary on food. Luckely we do not have to spend that much anymore but honestly I think that that is exactly why we are wasting so much food. If it was more expensive people would actually be more carefully not to waste food.

I would listen to you all day. I hate this world's ideals about food, nutrition and need to hit the stop button and improve but i fear it's too late.

Exactly. It's not about being perfect. It's about being better. Day after day. Every step in the right direction counts.
