I am Egyptian, my father lived in Yemen for 7 years, there he prayed in Zaydi mosques and realized that their prayer is identical to Sunni with one exception they didn't say Amen after reciting Al-Fatiha, my father was so well received in the community to the extent that they allowed him to perform the Azaan regularly and even give the Friday khutbah at the local mosque, the Imam of the mosque was friends with him, all this while being known as a Sunni Muslim from Egypt.
Keep in mind the civil war in Yemen (North Yemen Civil War 1962) and the Egyptian involvement in that war was fresh in the collective memory of the Yemeni people at the time.

Thank you so much for this important explanation. Many years ago I had the pleasure of visiting Yemen (including Sana) but really had no idea about the beliefs of local people. Certainly I found the locals so friendly and hospitable compared to Riyadh where I was living. I have to say that despite being Sunni I find the theology of Zaydis very attractive.

One idea I think would be great is to explain some of the religions in Crusader Kings 3 (as you’ve already technically done of course ). 1:20 Your channel is great to listen to while doing a play through bc it adds so much context and I learn so much more. Maybe going into the Tengri or any syncretism that happened in history? Amazing channel btw I never miss an episode!!
