Love this. Although I know there is some historic precedent for consumption of offerings (and some instances where it makes sense, as a way of internalizing the ritual), I also like it to be a FULL sacrifice, as in, if I offer it I DON'T usually consume it. If I give you a beer and then drink that beer, did I really give you a beer?

The only thing i would sayi think represents a different symbology is the pouring out the drink. It obviously represents the memory of the fallen. I think it symbolizes spilled blood also. But mostly, i think its a literal and physical way to continue the deads physical memory within the group. By pouring out the drink, you basically removed the portion that wouldve been drank by the dead member of the group. By pretty much wasting it, you pay tribute to their life by allowing them to affect your own life from beyond the vale. Lost but not forgotten is good and all...but its just words.
