I used just 3 oranges to make 1 jar of candied chocolate peel, 6 orange lollies and enough vitamin C supplements for 2 months. Using every part of your fruit and vegetables it’s only rewarding but it also helps to save money.

CANDIED CHOCOLATE PEEL: 🍊🍫

peels of 3 oranges
•1-1/2 x cups brown sugar
•2 x cups water
•160 x g dark chocolate
•1/2 x cup chopped almonds
•sea salt optional

🥣STEP BY STEP:

-slice the orange peels of the size you prefer in this case I prefer them quite thin so each orange makes 8 parts.
-blanch the peels 2 times (because I use the whole peel keeping the white parts that are a bit bitter it will help to take out the bitterness)
-place the peels on a grid and let them cool and dry.
-in the meantime melt the chocolate on a double boiler and add the chopped almonds .
-coat the peels in the chocolate
-place them on a baking paper and let them cool completely
-store in an airtight container
-they will last around 2 months

ICED LOLLIES: 🍭

3 x oranges juiced
Optional* any fruit (I used strawberries)

STEP BY STEP:

- Squeeze the oranges using a blender or your hands
- Blend one punnet of strawberries (or any fruit you like), I used frozen strawberries but fresh is perfectly fine
- Add your blended fruit to fill up half way your lollies mold
- Top up with the orange juice
- Freeze over night and enjoy

VITAMIN C SUPPLEMENT:

- Blend the leftover pulp of your juiced oranges
- Dehydrate until completely dry or use the oven at low temperature
- Blend the dehydrated pulp or use a mortar to turn it into a fine powder
- Add the powder to your capsules and take 1-2 a day

NOTE:

- 100g of fresh pulp contain 52 mg of vitamin C
- I bought the plant based film capsules online for about 5£ and they last for a really long time

It´s great to watch people getting a conscience with food again. Fruit trees and gardens are coming back too. And as we see, one can do a lot with very little. Proud of you all!

I love your zero waste doctrine. My hubby is zero waste too. Uses every kitchen waste to make fertiliser for his garden. It’s so cool!

Man, oranges (citrus in general!) Is so versatile! My grandma cut up oranges in slices and preserved them in honey for a quick snack, addition to water/iced teas and to make warm tea! She also dried slices on a rack in the windowsill and hanged them from a string to dry further and make space for more 😊 The dried ones were re-hydrated and used in baking and while they were drying, they also doubled as room scent/potpourri ❤ grandma lived in a farm with her brother and parents and they lived low-waste for their entire life. I learned a lot from them all by just being there!
