Me and @lajatattoo visited @permanick in Tenerife and used things from his garden to make a delicious quick recipe using native cactus!

BAKED CACTUS FRIES🌵
•4 prickly pear cactus pads (thorns removed)
🥣
-cut into French Fry strips, approximately 4 inches x ½-inch

CRUNCHY COATING🍞
•1 x cup panko bread crumbs
•1 x cup water or milk
•1 x cup flour
•1 x teasp salt
•olive oil
•optional : herbs and spices for the batter
🥣
-mix the flour with water and spices until nice and creamy
-dip in the cactus strips and then roll in to the bread crumbs
-brush with some olive oil
-bake in the oven at 180* for 40min.
-turn around so both the sides are getting golden.
-alternatively you can deep fry them

GUACAMOLE 🥑
•1 x onion
•2 x ripe avocado
•2 x tbsp olive oil
•half a lemon juice
•salt
•pepper
•chilli
•optional :diced pepper, garlic , parsley or coriander.

🥣
-Mash the avocado
-dice the onion and mix with olive oil , salt pepper,and herbs
-add the mashed avocado and mix all together.
-sprinkle some chilli

LEMONADE🍋
•1 x cup sugar
•1 x cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
•4 x cups cold water, to dilute
•lemon verbena
•thyme

Growing up I drank nopales, pineapple, and ginger smoothies. It no joke helped me loose weight in high school and gave me a lot of natural energy.

As a child Nopales (cactus) was a staple in our household I hated them... but now I can't wait to try these fries... my momma would be so proud of me.

I ate them Just cut off, and roasted on the comal. Add a bit of salt and that was delicious. Always loved cactus plants.

Instead of burning the thorns off. Cut them off with a pearing knife or tweezer them out 1 by 1. I know it takes more time, but if you burn them, you are still left with the part that connects it to the actual pedal of the cactus. Therfor, you can still get a thorn stuck in you're mouth or throat. Because essentially, you are not getting the whole thorn out of the pedal. Pro tip. You're welcome.

You remind me of one of my old classmates from the middle school. Just because of his looks a lot of people thought that he was some kind of a dangerous guy, but it turned out that he was from a farmer family, a great cook, and basically a nice kid to be around.

El nopal se come mucho aquí en México 🇲🇽 es un alimento nutritivo y que tiene muchos beneficios a la salud. Las nopaleras también dan un fruto, la tuna y es una delicia refrescante, se parece un poco a la pitahaya (fruta del dragón). Hay distintas variedades de nopal, pero esta que estás cocinando creo que es la italiana, no la mejor en cuanto a sabor y consistencia a mi gusto. Hay variedades que tienen las espinas como recubiertas y estas son suaves y casi puedes quitarlas a mano, esas son las variedades de nopal que son deliciosos, son muy tiernos.
