As a Jaguar owner, the S Type is an incredible car. The guy is right, buy 2005 or newer Jag properly maintained they are a blast to drive.

Honest review, I have a '07' w/66K miles. Very distinct, reliable, fast, elegant, comfortable if you follow routine maintenance. It is expensive to do major repairs, but so isn't a Merc/Bimmer. This car still turns heads.

Best automobile model review I’ve seen on YouTube, period. Point by point review of model changes, suspect areas, and includes tremendously helpful and useful accompanying text on the screen. Outstanding. My only negative, I could’ve done without the 1980’s Euro club music. 😂

My 2006 S Type R has been problem free. No major problems, ever. My Mercedes S Class AMG has been very problematic.

I've worked at a JLR garage I hardly ever saw a problem on these worst failure we had was a tranmision at 100k miles problem is that these tranmision have supposedly lifetime fluid which is far from the truth you still need to change it so people neglect it hence you see transmission failure

I have been driving a 2003 for 14 yeas without any problem what so ever only service and tires and battery. it still has factory breaks and sparkplugs with a 102K miles now.

This is an excellent review. Just about every issue you have pointed out happened to my 2005 V6 S Type. So I believe you are very accurate and give very helpful info on S type.

Very good information. I've had a 2003 Sport for 3 years and have experienced most of the issues mentioned. It had 175k when I bought it and now has 265k. The CATS suspension is ridiculously expensive to replace for a 2003.

I have a 2000 S Type. I struggle with the cost of suspension rebuild among other issues, but the car is so sexy!

Excellent review. I've had a 1999 version for many years now and have seen a few of the problems you've identified. On mine, by far the worst is the rusting of the sills at the rear - definitely worth checking if buying.

I've had four S-Type 3-.0 petrols
Lovely cars, drive beautifully, in the lap of luxury, bargain of the century prestige car, do your homework but don't hesitate in buying one. You will be delighted

My first s type was a 2000 with the 4.0. Tensioners were making noise on second day. Tackled the job myself which wasn't that bad. Shortly after that my transmission pooped the bed. 3k dollars for that fix. Kept the car for about 3 years which is long for me. It was comfortable and I already dumped so much money into the transmission I couldn't justify selling it. Second s type was a 2003 4.2v8 sport model. Very sexy. Engine so much more refined. Had the headlight problem that I fixed with a self tapping screw. Leaky valve cover. So much oil on the spark plugs. Coils were dying left and right. Brake problems that were very annoying. Hard to get parts for the sport model since it was rare and had different brakes. An old lady passed out at the wheel and smashed it up. Got it fixed and sold it immediately. Blessing in disguise I guess. Now I'm after a post 2005 R I don't learn

i’ve had the 2000 s-type v6 model with the beige interior, for me it was pretty much dead reliable. you need to be aware of the size of the car because some times you will bump into something but thankfully it has parking sensors. the wooden trim on the dashboard might crack, the windows regulator might fail or the mechanism might “unstick” from the window so the mechanism goes down but not the window so u have to push it manually up and down. maybe the door handle might break. and it’s a blast and relaxing to drive. it might not have bluetooth but it’s dead easy to retrofit something like a amazon echo car, so even smart. repairs might be expensive where you are ( not the case for me) but with proper, regular maintenance, it will run without problems for long. mine has almost and nothing major has gone wrong other than basic mechanic maintenance. sometimes you will hear a small humming noise with the suspension but isn’t really bad

There is only one true advice which is relevant about the S- type- buy one made after 2004. That is it. Facelift modes are really dependable with a nice looking interior.

I am in Canada, I own the s type r, I LOVE this car! It goes like bloody hell, I can beat new mustang no problem. Mine never see a snowflake, only drive in summer, .looks brand new, so much respect on the road, always given deference at stop signs etc.

I just bought a 2001 Type S 4.0. Although I expect this is all good advice, and I bought this vehicle without doing much research and very limited knowledge about Jaguars, I have no regrets at all at having a good example of the earlier version. This is the cleanest used vehicle I have ever seen which is why I couldn't pass it up, and the test drive is what sold me. The suspension is tight and sporty, the engine is quiet and powerful, and in the case of this particular vehicle, it was VERY low miles, and had to have been religiously garaged because it looks and feels like it just came from the showroom floor. I've already had a problem with the power window on the passenger side, and this seems to be a common issue with them wearing out and the glass going off track. I plan to fix it myself. I guess I fell on the wrong side of all the recommendations here, but I don't regret my purchase. So far the car is flawless (besides the minor window issue) and the purchase price was extremely low. I just couldn't pass up the deal. The interior looks brand new. I'm definitely going to baby the engine, mostly just an occasional driver anyway, I am mostly on two wheels unless it's raining or I have passengers. So far so good. For what I paid for it, I really can't go wrong and it's FUN. Databyter

I recently bought a 2001 S 3.0 with under 62000 miles. It’s been well taken care of & I have thankfully not had any issues thus far.
