The actors playing the tortured should've been awarded Best Supporting Roles, the screams are so bloodchilling it's terrifying.

I have been in the Tower twice on my vacations to London. It is a gloomy, gloomy place. I knew the story of the unimaginable suffering of countless people who died there well, but being there is very different from reading about it. It's like the air itself feels dark, and somehow almost palpable. I was absolutely drained afterwards both times. Never been any other place where the energy felt quite like that.

I was a Guardsman and spent many nite in the tower of London, we have lots of ghost stories in the grenadier regiment. One being a Scott's guard who was doing the keys ceremony, it's about 9pm at nite every nite, the yeoman lock the giant old original wooden doors one guardsman always stands aloan down mint lane, it was at this time a giant ghost of a bear came running down the lane scaring the guardsman off his post, later on they found out that in the medieval times the Kings kept giant bears in the tower that would often escape. I miss it all but wouldn't do it again😂

Lady Jane the Nine Day’s Queen is truly one of the most tragic victims of all.

As a historian primarily of the 20th Century, I can't help but think of Pol Pot's Toul Sleng prison/torture chamber. The main difference being that it was at least possible to be released from the Tower of London.

Jane Gray made me shed tears...
Hope she got to that world she dreamed of. It was a senseless loss

I cannot believe how brave these people were to withstand such agony and still not give up and confess everything.

Not a cell phone in sight back then... Just wholesome people living in the moment.

Man, it's so scary how sadistic and evil human beings can be. I can't even imagine being tortured, it's a nightmare

Worked there in ' 86. It was great to be able to see it all over a period of time, rather than just a few hours visit..The windows in the White Tower were installed by Sir Christopher Wren. Prior to this, they had been the arrow slit type.

Edward VI wasn't "sickly" a child or when he took the throne. He was a very active teenager and mostly in good health. It was only the last year of his life that his health declined, and then pretty rapidly.

The imagination used in the creation of harm to others is truly amazing. Check out any museum of torture in Europe, what was used during Inquisition, for example.

Torture was done under a warrant under the Royal Prerogative, either by suspension or the rack. There were only 80 warrants issued - most in the Tudor & Jacobean period. Torture was finally (officially) banned in 1640. There was only one rack in England, introduced under the reign of
Henry VI in an abortive attempt to introduce Civil Law (which was based on confession evidence. It was built by French monks & known as "The Duke of Exeter's Daughter".

I love these old documentaries. They may get things wrong, but they inspired my interest in history as a young lad.

"Mary was a woman with an axe to grind" - unintentional humour in a video regarding torture. 😳😳
