Found a 93 Toyota pickup with 50, 000 on the odometer. Looked a little rough but got the guy down to $4, 500. 22RE, manual with a camper shell. Got all the maintenance up to date, put in a rear locker and Bilsteins and it’s a real mountain goat, perfect for Montana. Best vehicle buy I ever made.

22re engine is one of the best Toyota produced, my old man had one with 600k original miles and the thing still ran like a champ, those little trucks are going up in price since they last so long

Bought an '86 Toyota long bed with the 22RE for $1800 15 years ago as my first car. Still daily drive it to work everyday with no major problems during the last 15 years. I get asked to sell it probably 6 times a year by guys in their 40's but I love it so much I hope to keep it forever.

I remember when Top Gear had a Toyota Hilux and they tried to destroy it and they couldn’t do it. They crashed into a tree, sank in the sea, dropped a caravan on it (obviously🙄), set it on fire and put on top of sky scraper and blew up the whole building. And it still worked. Then they turned it into boat called Toybota.

I had a '85 Toyota pickup that I bought new. It had the R22 engine. Got rid of it in 2006 for $500 and the engine was still workin' just as good as day 1, had 211, 000 on it. The body was tinny sounding, not that strong, rusted easily and the bench seat wore out and you heard all the road noise but it WORKED and started every time. That's what I want in a vehicle!

All i’ve learned in this channel is that anything but toyota is bad.

Cheap to run and if serviced well go forever, that seems to be the motto for most mass made Toyotas at least pre-year-2000

My brother turned his life around and started his own auto-glass business with one he’s had for over 10 years. When his new ford transit van was down one winter during a snow storm, we started it right up and drove from Albany to about half way up a mountain in a snow storm for a job. And it was a RWD ‘89 and it did the job!
