“The way to save America on a local level is to redraw borders.”

Well, if only someone could show a hypothetical map of redrawn state borders— 😮

I think Zism can work pretty well as a label for these ideas.

Monsieur Z is at the end of the day, just a guy, with thoughts, and opinions of his own. He is not a caricature, not a personification, he doesn’t share all of your own views, nor does he disagree with all of your views (probably).

As a Canadian from the self proclaimed and even federally recognized “Nation” of Québec, I can imagine what a Monsieur Z ideology would be like applied to Canada. There are a great many similarities to the United States in terms of both states being federations with different ethnic/ religious/ cultural/ ideological groups populating it’s different regions. I do think to an extent Canada’s provinces do a marginally better job of comprising more unified populations, but most provinces are still made up of distinct groups with distinct interests.

One thing that would make Canadian Monsieur Zism distinct from its American counterpart would be the fact Canada shares a huge border with the United States, an economic and military superpower, that a majority of our population lives very close to. I would like to imagine a world where both Canada and the United States are more decentralized (my own personal views, not Monsieur Zism), where “Utahism” is applied, and individual Canadian provinces and American provinces can form mutually beneficial trade relations free of restrictions from either federal government, in order to best serve the needs of the respective provinces and states populations. Perhaps with enough time, barriers to trade (mainly non tariff barriers, since minimal tariff barriers remain) could be sufficiently removed so that the new provinces and states trade more with each other, than with their own fellow provinces/ states, with perhaps deeper economic partnerships being founded between them (but not the way things occurred with the EU, nothing that could intervene with states sovereignty).

This video summarizes why I like you despite a having a bit of some disagreement on stuff like state maps. But so far I and you agree on 85-90% of things in politics.

Hey Monsieur Z. Thanks for another great video! I also grew up in New York City; born in Brooklyn and lived in Staten Island for many years. I moved out about 3 years ago but all of my family is still in NYC. Like you, I grew up Catholic and with a strong Italian-American community. In High School I was much more Neo-Conservative, and Pro Small Government with influence from Libertarianism, but as I reverted back to the Faith just after college in New York and found the traditional Latin Mass, I have become much more Traditionally Conservative and open to a more authoritative government, so long as it is a moral one. Oddly enough, my family which instilled more traditional values in me as a youth have become much more libertarian and socially liberal, though they are cultural Catholics and not practicing. Now that I am in Florida, and have experienced more of the country or "real" America as some folks say, it is very clear how stark a difference there is between other areas and New York. I think redrawing state lines is an interesting idea, so long as the new states did have the ability and freedom to have a high level of autonomy from the Federal Government. That said I am not someone who says the Federal Government should not intervene when it comes to clear moral issues like banning abortion. I think the real problem is that if we want a Nation to function properly, we need to be a Nation of moral, just people. Without some reflection of "Christendom" within us, we can never be truly great.

As one of the rare political conservatives who *hates* car-dependent suburbs, I'm frequently annoyed to the extent to which the American Right has chosen to abandon big cities and leave them to rot under leftist "defund the police" ideologues.

Sometimes, it doesn't really matter who really believes in their ideology.
Conservative, liberal, nationalist, or socialist, we, in the end, are still humans.

The problem I think is the use of the horde mindset on all sides of the political spectrum. One thing I advocate is single-issue bills. There are things that we could almost all agree on, but there is so much niche spending shoved into these large bills that makes everyone upset.

Man, coming from such a (relatively) homogenous, small and unitary nation-state your way of thinking is so different from mine, yet there are similarities at the same time. Interesting.

I’m staunchly opposed to a lot of Mr Z’s personal politics because I side with Jeffersonianism, agrarian republicanism, and decentralization. So I was surprised to find I almost entirely agree with his particular “Z-ism” from the first half of the video. America never has been a nation. It is a federation and an empire, and thus federalism is the real key. It seems the underlying spirit of American decentralization is still strong even among those with more centralist tendencies.

I will say though that “Utah-ism” is not at all likely to happen. States are sovereign political entities so their borders cannot be changed without their own consent, and most States are simply not going to consent to major border changes. States have always had diverse populations. Thats something you have to live with. I would say it’s more realistic to introduce decentralization on the State level, dividing larger states into autonomous provinces/regions.

i'm starting to believe my morals are too intertwined with the political spectrum. So it is refreshing to explore other's opinions from time to time, even if it doesn't align with my own.
