1 Minute a Day - Build Discipline

I get some messages that go something like "I want to improve my life, but I don't have the motivation to do anything. Not even something like drinking more water."

I get a surprising amount of these messages.

Yes, sometimes this is because something is awry in our diet, sleep, lifestyle, etc.

However, sometimes we're just lacking discipline.

We can't always rely on motivation. We don't wait for inspiration to brush our teeth. We just do it.

SOME discipline is required to do almost anything in life.

Going to failure seems to be good at building discipline. Pushing yourself beyond the point of "ugh I want to give up" seems to help.

I give a simple exercise here that's been used by martial artists for millennia to build strength and discipline.

It doesn't HAVE to be this. You can apply the failure/discipline principle to any exercise. But this one works well because it's relatively safe and training our legs can really suck.

In this case, that's a good thing.

Let me know if this helps!

I recognize that some people will say they don't have the discipline to commit to this either. I'm not sure how to answer that yet. I'll have to think on it.

I like this. Building discipline is something that should be taught and thought of more

Discipline is without a doubt the most important thing when it comes to losing weight. Once you gain that discipline, it’s hard to lose and it feels great knowing you can push yourself to be better.

Huh, that was more difficult than I thought.
Amazing how your sense of time dilates when you're in pain

We did something similar in a karate class I took as a kid, but that was every week, not every day for a week. I'll try this, I need to get myself disciplined.

One of the most helpful things I've heard on learning disipline is to aim low, but always make sure you are aiming up. I started improving my life 4 years ago by flossing every night before bed when I brush my teeth. I'm now to the point where my house is always pretty clean, I keep on top of maintenance, and I've lost 30 pounds. I credit that small, yet positive change to achieving all of this

Hey I just wanna say, as someone with their own fitness struggles, your videos are incredibly inclusive and motivational. You're doing a lot of good for so many people and I'm so glad you're finding success despite not focusing on trends and more generic content

I think these types of discipline building tools are really key. My "motivation" has increased a lot since I got into the habit of making myself go to the gym on days I really didn't want to, with the mindset that even ten minutes would be better than nothing. I often find that once I'm there I get excited about exercising, but even if I only do that ten minute walk on the treadmill or mobility routine, I still reminded myself that I *can* get to working out even if I don't want to. It's not a magic fix, but pushing through my unwillingness is a great tool to have in my back pocket when I'm not as excited about making healthy choices in my life.

I’m struggling with discipline so much. I want to organize my life and I can’t because of this. Please provide more information on discipline like “how to wake up or fall asleep when I must”, how to build habits etc. It will be much appreciated.

That was the most painful but rewarding minute of my life.

The Hard part about discipline is the sacrifices you make. Working out takes time, and you can't play videogames as much if you spend a lot of time in the gym.
Things like that, where you make larger, fundamental changes. That is what takes discipline.

I will try this, I'll reply to my own comment in a week and see how I did or how it's going. Thank you for the advice!
