The best way to check a used AUTOMATIC transmission is to reverse up a hill (5-10% gradient) and see if it slips on you or makes a rumbling sound. The reverse is usually the most under-engineered components to save money, but it shows you the preview of what is to come for your low (highest speeds, most used) gears later on.

5 steps to buying a cheap used car:
1. Buy a 94 Celica

Loved the thumbnail image, I have a 92 Celica ST that I'm restoring. Yes, I'm restoring a 92 for sentimental value. My dad bought it for me when he heard I was coming home from the Army and had it waiting for me & now he's gone and I've had several moments with the Celica. Took my wife to her Senior prom & several cross country trips.

My dad had an old 77 Ford Thunderbird. I tried jacking it up, the Jack went up but the car stayed on the ground

I agree about the Cougars, but the Cougars are REALLY hard to find. My friend had a '70 Cougar for 18 years, it had a little rust and needed a little work back in 2014, still in good running shape, but some guy saw it and offered him $25, 000 on the spot, since he was from up north and never saw cars like it. He took it.

Get a car thats been totaled out by because of hail damage. Had a friend that got a 30 grand car for 5. All because of hail...Its amazing how superficial alot of people are.

One of my favorite things about Scotty's videos (aside from the great content) are those duck, walrus, and general animal memes that show up when he laughs and such. It always makes me laugh, every single time lol.

My 96 Honda Accord is still running strong with over 200k on the dash.
Parts are super cheap for it too...

Best tip is to make sure it says Celica in the rear and has a toyota emblem in the front 👍🏼

Look for
1. Rusted thru the metal underneath. Rotten.
2. Check brake fluid lines
3. Parts availability
4. Check the coolant - nice and clean
5. Check the oil - is it still full. If not it has burned off. Is it clear?
6. Test drive - Check overheating; Aircon working; Engine OK? transmission ok? tracking OK? Suspension OK? Tyres wearing evenly?
7. Rev it up at start up check exhaust fumes - if any is visible beware.
8. Check the registration papers
9. Make sure of Insurance BEFORE driving it off after buying it.
OK, I improvised.

Oil leeks between engine and transmission, rear seals, or auto transmission seal, usually equals $1, 000 fix on any car ! I don't touch them I'll leave them where they are!! Hello from Australia Scotty.
