Oh my god! I can't do that, so when pronouncing the R, does your tongue takes the same mouth position as in K and G? it turns out that the tip of my tongue is forced to point the back of the roof of my mouth!!

Does r sound in American English use this tongue position only? Do they use the position where the front of tongue touches around the alveolar ridge while the back of the tongue is flat, similar to the position when we pronounce t or d.
