You can tell Brad knows his stuff, he just takes things off and throws them in a pile because he knows exactly how they go back on. Thumbs up for awesome mechanics!

This $4 part failed on my 2019 SXF-350. I had 8 hours on the engine. I lost the crank, crank bearings, piston, rings, cylinder, and head.... i.e. my motor was turned to scap. There's no warning that the fail is coming. You're fine up until the moment your not. Change this part!!!

I got lucky and caught this by finding little black plastic during my oil change on my sxf 250 2018. It wasn’t completely failed but the teeth on the gear were starting to break apart. Wish I had seen this before :) Great video

Good vid. My 2017 ktm 350 xcf broke this plastic gear at 30 had to rebuild the whole motor, all parts except the casings. If you own a bike with this older plastic gear, change it ASAP or expect a $8, 000 bill (poss 4k USA) im in NZ. Its a KTM manufacturer fault and there was no recall as far as I know, amfrom what I read, they may have not mentioned it to avoid just me speculating tho. :)

Just seems like if you are going to upgrade a failed plastic gear, you would want to put a metal one in there

Thanks for the vid Jay! I was under the impression it only affected 2016-17. Now I gotta crack mine open. I like your mic holder, with 3 daughters I have several pink ones laying around the house lol

UPDATE: Ktm has created steel gears for the 2024 models for both the Intermediate gear (shown in this video) and the smaller oil pump gear, but the steel gears are drop in replacements for the plastic ones on older models. It's about $30 USD for both so well worth replacing.

New steel intermediate gear: 79238006300
New steel oil pump gear: 77038001200

Old plastic intermediate gear: 79238006100
Old plastic oil pump gear: 77038001100

For my 2017 FE350, the OEM parts fiche diagrams now show the new steel intermediate gear, but not the new steel oil pump gear. Had to navigate to the 2024 models to see that one.

Do you need to drop the oil to do this, with engine in bike.
