In this video I will give you 5 tips for pulling an engine to swap.
When I do an engine swap, I have some rules I try and follow. So I don't end up with an engine swap costing me a fortune! This is not really an engine swap tutorial. What we are going to do is set up for a successful engine swap. If possible buying a whole donor car for an engine swap is best. Thanks to WD-40 for being a great partner on this video, and a future engine swap ;)

I've pulled more motors than I care to add up. Every time you think you have everything unbolted, there's always that hidden ground cable or bolt you missed! It's always helpful to have a second pair of eyes and hands.

Charles. This makes me want to pull the engine out and just put it back in. Practice 101 🤣

My father-in-law did a motor swap on a 2004 Ford Focus and for someone who had never done one before he did a great job. Labeled every wire and connection with a piece of duct tape as a label and marker and did many of the other things you highlighted here. Great video Charles!

Loved the quick flash of the miata at the end. The miata would be scary fast with that engine.

When a similar car to mine came "fresh" to my local salvage yard. I took the effort to remove the entire engine wiring harness. Having this at home already helped me several times to complete car repairs effectively.

The burning question after this video.. What should I swap this into? Keep in mind I need to find a transmission, and do chains on this engine. Maybe a Caddy truck? Maybe a NON-VW?

How does this channel not have a millions subs yet!!! Loved your headgasket replacement video for the Chevy S10, it was a reality check to what the job can potentially entail before diving in myself. Will definitely leave head gasket replacement and other delicate internals to the professionals. I'll stick to replacing bolt on parts and hoses. Thanks again for the videos! They're great, thorough, and have great production quality. 👏 Just subscribed and turned on notification for all future videos.

buying the whole car for an engine swap usually means a free engine swap, after selling parts online or other sources, sometimes it can even result in getting paid on top of the swap

Great to know that Charles still takes the time to edit his own videos and show some love to all those who take the time and comment!

PROPERLY RECOVERED to be GREEN 134... but they still have rules... Some places in the world like the USA.

When I kept a PD 2.0 from a Passat for a swap into a mk1 golf, I kept everything.
Bust out the sawzall and cut out anything related to engine and trans mounting, and even exhaust brackets.
I even extracted the complete harness from the car without cutting a wire.
Since the donor has been scrapped, I didn't want to leave anything to chance that I might need down the road.
Going to a boneyard to perform more surgery for needed parts can be a major hassle.
