I essentially bought my AMS in order to run support filament. The part is not flat and therefore a filament change is required for consecutive layers for much of the print. Clearing supports from internal cavities quickly and effectively was instrumental for my project. However, I was staggered by how much it increased my print time. 4.5 hr print became an 11 hr print due to 291 filament changes. I mean, it I try not to use it. I've also used it for multicolored prints but I've learned that you need more than one or two layers of the alternate color or you can get bleed through.

You can dial in how much purge there is between color changes. From the looks of it the black filament got purged fairly quickly after which the white was extruding without contamination moments after. Maybe you could cut a few seconds on it, could help with the print time if you have plenty of color changes.

The AMS can be used in a much more efficient way. I saw you have dialed in some of your purge % in other comments.
You will also benefit by printing more than 1 item at a time.
If you made a single model with 20G of waste or filled the entire build plate with models it would still be 20G of waste.
So I can't tell if you are doing single orders but take advantage of the build area the fact the filament changes/waste are the same with 1, 10 or 100 printed at a time.

i find the ams on my x1c to be pretty useless. multicolor printing is really only useful for making really thin but large things like signs, or you end up with 3x the thing your printing in wasted filament. it also takes way too long to change colors. I basically only use it to keep a couple commonly used spools loaded so I dont have to switch them out as much, but even then it only holds 4 and i have like 20 spools of filament.

If youre printing something artistic the colors are terrible anyways as hand painting a model will always look 100x better.

I dont regret buying it but honestly the ams is not the best part of the printer

Wow for 1000$ machine this much waste is insane but if you can afford it you can afford the filament

Is this too long to wait for a multi colored print ?? What about all the poop generated ?? Let me know what you think !

Thats actually a lot more waste than i imagined, is the amount of poop generated customizable? Also does it have a lot of benefit printing an extra colour cube while the printer whiles down the nozzle?
