Welcome to a preview of the third Ask Me Anything (AMA) episode, part of the Huberman Lab Premium subscription.

The Huberman Lab Premium subscription was launched for two main reasons. First, it was launched in order to raise support for the standard Huberman Lab podcast channel — which will continue to come out every Monday at zero-cost. Second, it was launched as a means to raise funds for important scientific research. A significant portion of proceeds from the Huberman Lab Premium subscription will fund human research (not animal models) selected by Dr. Huberman, with a dollar-for-dollar match from the Tiny Foundation.

Dr. Huberman- if all of your podcasts are separate from your teachings and research, how in the world do you find the time to do all of the research for these episodes? You really are superhuman!

In my experience with ashwaganda, stopping it can definitely increase anxiety. Something to keep in mind especially if you deal with higher levels of anxiety / panic disorders to begin with.

As a medical doctor, one caveat about ashwagandha – DO NOT take if you have hyperthyroidism as it can stimulate the thyroid. There have been case reports of people with normal thyroid function taking ashwagandha for a long time and developing hyperthyroidism (excess thyroid hormone). That being said, if you have hypothyroidism (low thyroid function) from Hashimoto's or other causes, then ashwagandha can be beneficial. Studies show that it can improve thyroid indices like TSH and T4 over time. I find most patients tolerate it well, and it is safe for long-term use as long as it is being cycled as Dr. Huberman said.

Great to hear you mention Ashwaghanda around high stress periods only. Ashwaghanda quickly gives the unmotivated feeling in myself.

Have you considered having Norman Doidge on your podcast (neuroplasticity)? Also, do you have any experience with lessening symptoms of Blepharospasms?

Don't really remember, about 1 month or so you asked a question on your youtube community page " what topic you guys want to hear on my next video " and I recommended to make video about bluetooth risks on our bodys, so I'm really happy now to see that.

No mention of maca root, one the most widely consumed adaptogens?

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant summary. While I was aware of the adaptogenic effects of ashwaganda, there are so many caveats here of which I was totally unaware - including with regard to workouts and timing. My favorite adaptogen has always been rhodiola rosea, and this has sparked, my interest in ashwaganda. I also didn't know about the month and a half rule...

Any studies of going out first thing in the morning in minus 10 to 15 Celsius weather in a TShirt and light cotton sweats? I hate getting wet in winter. Love this channel from Canada.

Ashwaghanda creates this complete absence of feeling for me, it’s unsettling.
