I use my licensed ham radio while trimming my 18ft hedges in my Cummins diesel powered cherry picker.

As a 22 year old HAM radio operator, and huge fan of your channel, I would just like to take a moment to say that I understand where you are coming from, and it is frustrating, but there are good HAM radio people out here. If there is anything I can do to help you out, please let me know.

Sometimes "good enough" is "good enough". Coincidentally, that is the principle that has made Harbor Freight such a success.

I have used these style radios for a few years on large construction sites and I'm always grateful for how good they work for the price point. Not the easiest to program from the keypad, but once you connect to a computer, it's a lot better, and you can program multiple units with the same channels. Thanks for the content, keep up the good work!

I have my technician class ham license and grew up around those insufferable hams!! Kinda drove me out of it as a hobby. But I will say it took me a week spending about 15-20 min each day to read a manual and do practice tests for my technician class. Very simple!! Great video!!! You are doing more for Ham radio than a lot of actual hams. Getting people started with one little baofeng can get some one into a hobby they never knew they'd enjoy. Lord bless your family!! Keep up the great videos!!

I'm a ham, a boomer, and an east coast guy. I hate even myself!

I'm a ham radio operator and an East Coaster in Canada (GASP!) and I absolutely LOVE those little radios. They give me the ability to own several. I use them to monitor police frequencies, for 2 way comms while travelling in groups, and anywhere I need to talk to someone else where shouting at each other isn't practical. In the end, they just plain work. I would never be able to afford six or eight high priced radios from the big three.

And one more thing: I LOVED that you talked about practical technology adoption. I always tell my marketing contractors, "Just because you can, doesn't mean that you should." Thanks brother.

It took me exactly 6 hours of cramming the night before the test to pass the technician license test.

"The perfect is the enemy of the good." I'll take three $30 BaoFengs, in a bag, ready to go, right now, over a $500 Kenwood or Yaesu that may well never make it to the top of the budget list and therefor never happen. Better a solid and imperfect solution now, than a "perfect" solution never.

I am one of the those Ham guys, hopefully not rude. Beofang has introduced many new people to the hobby. I would encourage those you are interested to not avoid also getting you Ham license. There are 3 levels of testing, for these HT units on Ham frequencies you only need the first test. There is no fee from the FCC for the ham license. Sometimes a small fee to take the test to help cover expenses. Do not be a hater of Ham operator’s we are just having fun with radios. When you need help with your HTs you probably will be asking a ham for help . I apologize for those who get rude trying to explain the laws.

You can ride your dirt bike on the road. You can turn left on red … many things can be done of you carful. The ham guys are just trying to explain the rules of the road. The radio laws almost never get enforced but I is good to know for sure what you are doing.

Thanks for the great informative video. To me this video is about more than BAOFENG, which I may get 2 of them.
Important take aways for me are around 6:05 -6:30 and 7:00 - 7:30. Over the years in my life I usually had to settle for what is practical rather than what is ideal. Because of your video on the cheapest chainsaw mill from Amazon I purchased one. Even before I took it out of the box I watched your video several times. I was able to cut some 16 inch wide 5 foot boards with live edge for projects. Thank you!

I assume if a CB radio is dead, someone needs to check the battery (laughing)

I’m a licensed Amateur Radio operator. I have 4/5 Baofeng radios. They are cheap, easily purchased, and reliable.

Are they perfect? No. I can’t afford perfect nor do I need it.

I do recommend replacing the stock antennas with something like the “Signal Stick” - you will get greater efficiency and greater range

Cheers.

"Sometimes, just adequate is best" - Wranglerstar...I agree 1000%!! In the age of social media and marketing, it's easy to get distracted by the newest model or most expensive gadget, but for the average person and average family, just adequate is enough!

I just ordered the Midland 40 watt 12 volt GMRS radio and have a GMRS license. Are You Folks aware there are GMRS Repeaters going up all over the States, Plus the License fee is dropping down to 35 Dollars this Summer from 70 for a 10 year license. It can be used in the Vehicle or with a 12 Power Supply in the House. With 40 Watts on GMRS, it leaves those old CB Radios behind in the Dust! They are Tinker Toys anyway with only about 3.5 watts out on AM. Kind of like FRS Radios, more of a Kids toy with their 2 watts out and that little antenna that eats up most of that power. With GMRS you can put a High Gain antenna on the Radio and at least Double your Effective Radiated Power. Almost all of the GMRS repeaters are just a matter of requesting to use them for free.

I’ve got a cb radio in my truck. I use for traffic and weather and for talking to friends while trail riding and I love it. Maybe I’ll try ham after seeing this.
