CB Radio For Emergency Comms & SHTF - Why A CB Radio Can Be Good For Preppers for WW3 Or Disasters

I have made fun of CB radio in previous videos but only as it relates to off-road usage. In this video I explain why having a CB radio can be helpful in a SHTF situation, natural disaster, World War 3, Civil Unrest, etc. and why adding a CB radio to your prepper pack is not a bad idea especially if you have an SSB (single side-band) CB radio and a large antenna on your roof.

I’m learning a lot from these videos. For instance, I didn’t know that some Mossberg shotguns have recoil buffers in the stock.

I am STILL a CB radio user, and I also use VHF in my off-road vehicle and local comms. I managed to have a chat with a buddy in AbuDabi on CB using SSB, all the way from here in South Africa - you cant do that with a GMRS or even VHF without many, many repeaters. To be honest, I was not using only 12watts though 😁

I'm traveling the country in my Van and have been on the road for 6 months now. I use both CB and my GMRS radios. I have my boo fwang radios just in case.

when s.h.t.f., you need a way to contact Candy Cane or Rusty Nail in an emergency.

Exellent topic! I used your very same logic when I purchased my President Randy and President Lincoln CB radios. I keep them, and batteries galore, in a Faraday box.

I have a CB and a GMRS radio in my truck, in my area there is not much traffic but if Shtf happens, I believe it will be a source of information

A CB will work a lot better after SHTF because most stations running big power will be off air and it'd be less busy. Then you'll get 10m ham performance. Right now with the solar cycle you're able to regularly make contacts cross country even if you're running legal power. The President Randy walkie talkie I have has talked 10 miles on its factory antenna pretty reliably (surprisingly.) I talked to my friend in Tampa FL from Iowa walkie talkie to walkie talkie since he has his hooked to his 4 element beam and pointed at me in Iowa. CB will forever be better for freedom than GMRS and ham simply because it requires no license and has no protocol to follow. Nobody has to register their name and address with the FCC. I have my general class ham and GMRS licenses and haven't talked to any one on any of those bands just because I don't like the culture and protocol. I talk on the CB every day.

I'm going to recommend the President Lincoln 2+ with the 11meter mod, giving you 10, 11, 12 meters, am, fm, ssb and of course the "rodger beep". Is it legal for CB? well, just a legal as a UV-5R is for GMRS. but who's counting?

I bought 2 of those emergency Radio Shack CBs, exactly like you showed, pre-cell phone intro for driving an isolated stretch of road in Oregon. One in each car, and installed a dash-mounted CB in my truck 6 years ago. Some thought I was silly. Glad I did so.
Thank you.

I always hook up my Uniden CB when we travel, even though I have a 2 M/70cm. Ham radio in my car. I can listen to truckers and get a heads up if there is a traffic problem ahead.

Having another whole range of frequencies to use could be very helpful if there was too much chatter on another band. I didn’t realize the Single Side Band could transmit at 12 watts. I was thinking all CB was limited to 4.

CB is definitely better than nothing at all, and yes, Channel Six is usually a total shitshow.

I hear very VERY few truckers using CB anymore and I live right next to I-80.

I also drove up to Chicago on a major interstate last year and had the CB in my vehicle. I heard NO CB traffic to or from Chicago and only 2 truckers BS'ing while I was in Chicago.

It's a big change from 30 years ago when CB was in every semi-truck.
