Currently, during the pandemic lots of different states, dental hygiene schools, dental offices, etc are not allowed to use the ultrasonic scaler due to the aerosols. So, this video was made in hopes to help you feel more confident hand scaling... or feel that you’re not alone in hand scaling... AND to offer some tips to help lower your stress about hand scaling.

I’m a registered dental hygienist working in uk 🇬🇧 & am now hand scaling most of the time, AGPs pre booked only...I qualified in 1995 at Guys Hospital & we had to hand scale only & I still love using my hand scalers! I've been a dental hygienist for about 28 years and we were mainly taught to hand scale. We only got to use the US to learn how and then we had to have special permission to use on a patient. I wish everyone still taught this as it is a valuable skill for a hygienist.

I do this at home once every two months and its the most satisfying thing. I'm always bad at scheduling professional cleaning, but whenever I go in every 5 or so years, the appointment takes maybe 15-20 minutes because they don't have anything to do! Always a nice experience.

My dental hygiene class got hit with covid and so I only used my ultra sonic once!!! We hand-scale every type of calculus code and I’m truly grateful I learned hand scaled the way I do. The older hygienists have even quit because they can handle the stress on their wrists. Awesome vid!

Im not a dentist i find watching people get work on their teeth relaxing. I watch these and other dentist that pulling back lots of harder plaques around gums and tartar as it breaks away i feel a relief. Im also happy for them. It takes some people alot of courage to go to dentist. Some can’t afford it for years. Unlike this patient i can watch knowing they get some relief. Thank you 🙏

Currently in school and we just started using ultrasonics again! Maaan hand scaling an entire mouth is so heavy on my inexperienced hands, I can't wait until things get better in the world
