notes regarding the comment section of this video:

⚪ business: I do not make money off of you coming to the dentist to get your teeth cleaned. I get paid hourly whether or not my patients show up. I made this video because I genuinely care to spread awareness about what can happen if you try to scale your teeth at home and something goes wrong.

thank you all for being here and reading this and being interested in caring for your teeth.
and thank you for continuing to be kind in the comments section. peace, love, and teeth!

I have been cleaning my teeth for the last 3 yrs. dentist told me to keep up what I'm doing which he taught that was due to only flossing and brushing. When I told him I scale my own teeth he automatically objected, claiming my gum was damaged. I asked why didn't he said anything before of that was the case. he paused. Fumbling for word. Never returned.

Don't you dare use the basically same tools we use in the office, you need to pay us. Like a mechanic saying don't change your own oil because you are not qualified to use a wrench on a bolt and you need to come in and pay us. From these dentist videos I've seen, all gums get beaten bloody. It's a good thing the body heals itself for most part.

Used a home dental scaler a couple of times a few weeks apart, then had a cleaning scheduled a month later. She said it was the best my teeth had looked, with much less staining on the backsides of my teeth from being a smoker. It seems to work well to remove that sticky crap that can build up and harden from smoking weed and cigarettes. Still using mine every couple of weeks. Be gentle with it, the vibration does the work. Seriously, take it slow and easy.

I've been brushing and flossing like a maniac all my life. My wife got me a scaling kit. I couldn't believe how much gunk was left after brushing and flossing. Every so often I go in with the metal hook and CAREFULLY de-scale my teeth. It's really amazing how much better my teeth look. Getting the tartar from around my gum line has caused the gums to begin growing back up the tooth from where it was previously receding. My dentist told me that the receding gums are irreversible and I'll need to get dentures in the near future. I'll never trust another dentist again, which sucks because I believe we do need a professional check up once in awhile. But why can't they just be honest?? They aren't making enough money? Really!? I have to worry about them trying to sell me on the idea that I need to let them rip all my teeth out and put in dentures?? Bullcrap on that! My teeth are so smooth and white at 50 years of age. No black stuff between my teeth none of the old smokers stains in the back. It's great. I do worry if I'm damaging the enamel, but I can't trust the dentist to be honest so I'll just try to be careful.

The reason why ppl would even consider doing this at home is because a deep cleaning which is basically scaling is like 700+$
And this at home tarter removal scaler is like 25-35$

Some people can’t afford to go to the dentist so keeping your teeth clean is the better way to go

I had to scale my own tooth that had a lot of tartar because the dentist was so rough I think he was trying to pull out my tooth! But now that visible tartar is gone, I let the hygienist do it, lots of unseen tartar

I got half my mouth done in 1 hour and it cost me 400 bucks, would have been 550 if I didn't have insurance. I could tell a big diffence between the half that got done and the half that didn't. I paid $15 for a basic set of stainless scaling tools. Took me 2+ hours to do the other half myself, I then used medicated gum toothpaste. I didn't need local anaethesia since I was very careful and worker very slowly. Got tons of tarter/buildup off. It was a lot of fun and very satasfying. I get it though, something COULD go wrong. Just like something could go wrong if you clean your own carpet, change your own oil, clean your own ears, pop your own pimples, or do a manicure or yourself. Usually better to have a professional do things for you, if you can afford it.

You can train yourself to gently and safely remove calculus problem areas in between dental visits. Especially superficial, easy to reach problem areas.

All the dentist I’ve come across have been in my low income community and they are always tired, serious, rude, overworked, super busy and are really roughy when doing deep cleaning and they actually hurt my gums every time !! Why do people make it seem like there a good dentist if the reality is unless you go to the most expensive dentist they won’t actually care about you as an individual! They see it as work sadly in my city there is no good dentist THEY JUST WORK!

I love scaling my teeth . I use a plastic scaler which is very gentle on the enamel . I also use an irrigator to flush out anything that slipped under the gums.

let me get this straight… I “shouldn’t” use my little nail scissors to scrape at my teeth? 🤔

I don't mean to downplay any hygienists job here but I'm sorry lol... I have always removed my own tartar build up at home with scaling tools I bought at Walmart for like 10 bucks.
I have only have 1-2 cavities (I'm 36) and my hygienist nor my dentist has ever been able to tell I do it at home or see any damage to my teeth. In fact I've always been told I'm "blessed with low tartar build up" hahaha. I'm not. I remove it myself.
I work in a repair type industry and I always recommend customers never do their own repairs.
Why? Because why would I tell a customer to DIY when they could pay me for the job. Could they do the repair? Probably. Would I ever tell them that? No way haha.

Sonic scalers don't hurt the teeth and are minimally abrasive to gums. Dentists itemize services they want you to pay for an additional service and charge you out the ass. 200 dollars per quadrant on average in addition to regular cleaning costs. If you can do it safely yourself with a water and vibration based sonic scalers absolutely do it yourself. Especially since most people I know rarely go to the dentist. The more you know about proper self cleaning and hygiene the better
