I've always adored Elvira! Got to meet Cassandra once in Seattle about 15 years ago. She hosted a double feature of her 2 films and did a Meet and Greet with all the fans present. Super nice, super friendly, she just seemed to be having a ball, and yes she was in full Elvira costume and make-up for the show.

She is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet honestly. I got called up at Knott's Scary Farm to be a back up dancer for her stage show at the event when I was younger and she was the most amazing person to work with.

I remember watching Elvira on Movie Macabre as a kid and it wasn’t for the movies. She is a reason why the 80’s was the best decade ever. Great work!

Her gag writer was her Groundlings friend, John Paragon. He also worked with Paul Reubens in creating the Pee-Wee Herman show and is best remembered for playing Jambi the Genie. When he died Petersen had his ashes. She and Reubens then had a fundraiser so they could inter Paragon in style. He’s buried at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery and his urn is in a glass display case and is made to look like Jambi’s box.

I was once babysat by The Mistress Of The Dark, Elvira while she was in character.

I live in Colorado Springs, where Elvira went to high school. My friends mother and her went to school together and have remained good friends to this day. Back when i was 19 (1994), Elvira came to Cripple Creek, Colorado, to do an appearance, so my friends mom arranged for us to go meet her. The problem was that Elvira was appearing in a casino, and most of us were too young to get in, being only 17, 18, 19 years old. Elvira talked to the management of the casino and took 100% responsibility for us all, and we had to stay with her the whole time at her autograph table until she went on stage. So technically, Elvira was my babysitter for the 1½ hours that we spent with her.

Yes, she was an underage showgirl! her parents had to sign a release....the 70's were a MUCH different time. She talks about it in her autobiography "Yours Cruelly, Elvira". She is the queen of hustle!

Fun fact: Elvira and Stan Lee were partners in founding Los Angeles Comic Con. It was founded as Stan Lee's Comickaze Expo and they were the founding partners in the enterprise.

A good reason the lawsuit Maila Nurmi brought against Cassandra Peterson wasn't successful was because even as early as the 1950s other Vampira imitations had already appeared across the USA on local television stations hosting horror movies. And during Elvira's heyday there were plenty of Elvira wannabes and knockoffs. Cassandra Peterson took it in stride probably thinking the imitations were a form of flattery.

As an 80s kid, Mistress of the Dark was another of those movies that we'd stop and watch whenever it was re-running on cable. I loved the idea of suddenly discovering I had magic powers and a shape-shifting dog. What kid didn't? LOL
