Disable Windows FAST BOOT / FAST START & Why You Should

Показать описание
If Windows 10 fast startup is not something you want to be enabled, you can disable it with relative ease.

Fast startup or FAST BOOT is a Windows service or feature in Windows 8 and was carried over into Windows 10 that provides a faster boot time when starting up your PC.

The feature is one that most people are using without even knowing, but there are others who have issues with it, and disable it straight away when installing Windows or when they get their new PC.

Problems you might be facing.

One of the biggest problems faced, is if you're using Wake-on-LAN, which will more than likely have a problem when your PC is shut down with fast startup enabled.

Dual booting Linux users will possibly see issues with dual booting and virtualization. Some people have reported that power and sleep buttons on keyboards not working. And some have had problems with system fans or cpu fans not stopping spinning.
These issue might not effect most users, but they can prove to be frustrating.

Windows 10 updates might not install properly or get you stuck in a boot loop if you have fast startup enabled.

This actually fixes the bug on Gigabyte boards that causes your RGB lights to not switch off after shutting down the PC

cloned my hdd to my new m.2 nvme ssd, reformated the old hdd, this then caused my windows to not shut down(restarts immediately), I disabled fast boot, and it fixed everything

Since many people are asking if its better to turn off fast startup, yes, as long as you have an ssd the boot time improvement is negligible and therefore its better to turn it off for stability. However if you still use an hdd, it can take around 3 minute(i tested it personally)to boot if you disable it.So in short for ssd=disabling is okay and i recommend it for stabilty and for hdd=keep it enabled if you dont have issues.

Wow... that was a great hint, Mike! When I checked the Task Manager as suggested in your video, my uptime was 4 days from a cold restart. I followed your guide, and the difference in my boot time is negligible (I boot from an M.2 drive). I agree that Windows needs to flush its "stuff" whenever it can.

I was having an issue on my dual boot Win 10 rig. On the 2nd installation of Win 10, it was taking exactly 7 minutes to power off every time I tried to Shutdown. This fixed it! Thanks!

Thank you for this. Around two days ago my PC wouldn't turn off or get into hibernation, whenever i clicked one of these it would throw me right back to the lockscreen. Anyways, thank you for the amazing video, always nice to see it getting direct to the point.

The higher end mother boards with a clear cmos button right on the IO shield removes the concerns about using super fast boot.

Fast startup/boot would cause massive delays during log-in and cause my desktop to hang for an additional minute once it appeared. Previously I had a secondary HDD that was known to cause the same symptoms (which is why I replaced it) and I was shocked when the issue re-occurred after a windows build update. I would've never guessed this was the cause. Thanks!

Some motherboards have this feature in the BIOS as well. I recommend turning it off as its given me issues on my dual boot windows/Linux system. I have an MSI x370 sli plus. For me it was next to the memory setting in the bios. It may vary per motherboard. Check for your model online if it has the feature and how to disable it.

Fastboot completely screwed over my PC and I couldn't find a fix for months. I had to reset the BIOS or switch out RAM slots every time I turned the PC on because it never POSTed. Then I stumbled upon Fastboot on the UEFI BIOS and disabled it just in case. Now it works just fine.

FAST BOOT and FAST START is not same thing !!. disabled FAST START 2:10 (windows), and leave FAST BOOT (bios option), if you dont use two OS or need use bios all time. (fast boot) this do bios boot only from ssd/hdd and dont check anything (usb/keyboard and other stuff) so boot more fast

Just stopping by to say I recently set up a dual boot system with Windows 10 and Windows 7 for some older applications, and was running into this issue. Great explanation of the problem and a quick fix that worked. Thanks!

I can't access to my bios even if I mash delete button, is that because of the fast boot?? And also when the "gigabyte ultra durable" post comes up it hangs like 10-15 seconds then after that it boots now to the OS.
