Finally! You're the ONLY person (believe me, I've looked) who correctly, comprehensively, and concisely explains the practical considerations of fast boot. I do wish you had also mentioned _fast startup, _ if only to distinguish it from fast boot for those who might mix up the two. Anyway, imho, both of these features should be turned off—they're futile at best and fraught at worst.

Holy shit! Thanks for this information! All these things not working and I didn't know why. And you verified some things I thought it was doing. But on my laptop, having trouble making it stop.

Actually, after doing several things to try to stop hibernation/sleep/fast boot, the laptop is now showing a screen that says "shutting down" which is extremely encouraging. And it booted two cds but refused to boot two dvds. Windows install and repair disks are dvds. Yes, it's a dvd rom drive (at least it claims to be). Not to worry as long as it keeps booting from usb. It's very tempremental. I have to make boot usbs with one specific version of one specific app for them to boot. It's mbr, and I think even though some apps say they're backwards compatible, they are not. But that's just a guess, I don't know for sure.

I'm replacing the old hard drive and ram and I'm so excited. I am going to do a clean install of windows to make sure I don't carry over whatever is so damn wonky about it, if it's something in the windows system.

Hi! Can you tell how the Windows App (in my case Gigabyte Fast Boot) communicates with the BIOS settings? I cannot enter Bios with Windows UEFI (boots with no monitor signal) nor with F2 before Power. I wish to troubleshoot mainly the app. Because all my options there are greyed out. And would be nice to enter BIOS as Gigabyte intended to use FastBoot for their MBs

If you have fast boot enabled can't you just hold shift and click shut down for a complete shut down?

Great info.
I have a question ⁉️.
How do I update the BIOS of my Dell latitude E5470.
Currently the BIOS version is 1.22.3 installed on 2/17/2020.
The latest BIOS for update is of version 1.33.3 which is released on 09 Nov 2022.
Should I install this update or do I upgrade one step at a time as there are many versions available before the current latest version.
My question or consern is can I skip all the updates and directly install the latest BIOS version.
There are 9 BIOS version available before the latest 09 Nov 2022 version.
So I am confused as how to go about installing these BIOS updates.
I don't want to end up corrupting windows or motherboard.

Is it okay to skip BIOS versions and go straight to the newest one.

Disabling the fast boot significantly increased my laptop booting time, it took around 40 seconds. Enabling it made my laptop boot really fast just around 5 seconds.

I have Ultra fast Boot Enabled in my ASROCK M365-HDV motherboard but boot is slow taking up to 35 seconds to boot to the login screen. When I enter my password the welcome screen takes ages to log into Wiondows 11. I'v tried lots of thing but can't fix this.
