correction here, hibernate is actually turned of the computer, you can test by cut the electricity and still resume. hibernate is basically a sleep but instead of saving memory to the RAM it saves it to the disk. HIbernate is helpful because it is like sleep yet you don't need the power. fast startup is better to be switched off if it doesn't make your computer boot faster significantly, because clean start always better but if we plan to work something later just use hibernate or sleep.

I just verified it personally. You are correct!
If enabled : 1GB is written in each startup.
If disabled : 1GB is written after 4 or 5 startups.
Also, the boot time(mentioned in Task Manager changed by 0.3sec after disabling it.
In real life : Before disabling : 10sec
After disabling : 13-15 sec
I haven't yet verified the change in battery backup.
However, I'm sure that it would increase 😊😊

Actually, the main reason you should turn it off if you have an SSD is that it writes tones of GB on every shutdown, therefore it reduces its lifespan. I learned it the bad way after my SSD's and NVMe's health dropped dramatically (85%-90%) after only a few months of use and I couldn't find out why. Keep it enabled only in case you have an HDD because they are most tolerant to hard use.

Base also on my experience, Yes, you are right, it is only applicable on laptop not on desktop.

Restart resets the computer. On-Off doesn't reset the computer when fast startup is enabled.

I’ve got HP laptop with Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1 TB PCIe NVMe M.2 hard drive and Windows 11, boot time with fast startup only takes 17 sec, without it 30 sec. So there is a big difference. 🤔 🧐

What he mean its bc if u shut down with fast startup and open your pc many times, days goes on and the pc gets laggy

If you using ssd as a main storage you better turn off, because when u turn on fast startup..everytime you shutdown your computer it will write data at least 1Gb

Does this also help in shutting down a laptop which refuses to shut down.

Meaning, when i choose the shut down option, it displays the shutting down message & then goes into a blank screen while the SSD light, power LED lights are blinking and the laptop fan is running on a high speed for some reason.

Happens to me sometimes when I shutdown the laptop or put it on sleep mode(refuses to shutdown while on a black screen). Also, sometimes when the laptop in the "off state" & I and I try to power it "on". It acts dead. no SSD led lights no "power on" LED lights etc. It would only start if I click and hold on the "windows key" and "B" key at the same time after which I press the power button. Then it boots up. Strange
