Sicily is not hot, it's in temperate region. The real Hot and humid places lies in Tropical region of India and Africa.

Have you seen the price of strawberries in winter on the UK mainland? When you look at the country of origin they are coming from the other side of the world. As they do not keep long, they are flown in, hence the price. So fruit and veg may not be unavailable, but the price goes up to the point they are not worth buying.

It is normally several degrees colder than London and much wetter, normally London is sitting around 12 while up here 5 or 6, I don't know where you lived and for how long but it must have been an odd period as I am much older than you and lived in Scotland nearly all my life.

I live in a hot climate, and my favorite things are the foods. In my country, we can feed chickens, pigs, cows, dogs... we can grow rice, vegetables, ... a lot of plants. And fishes, crabs... . So, our food is from those things. Guess what's my country? Vietnam.
