A new millennium, a new football? Not quite: 2002 saw the final primacy of three-at-the-back at the World Cup, and 2006 saw the return of the back four, and, a style of football we all probably recognise today.

The best thing about this world cup was Totti finally winning on the world stage. The English media love to underrate him for some reason. However in reality Marcello Lippi was clever enough to find a way to play him and Pirlo in the same team. Whilst England struggled to find a way to play Gerrard and Lampard in the same team for about 10 years or so.

Italy's tactics in 2006 is important to note the way Alex Del Piero was used very effectively off the bench and would play with Totti at the same time

I have the same opinion about the 2002 brazilian team. Actually it was a defensive team, but because of the individual talents we tend to forget about it very easily. Brazil will never have a team like this...
But basically nearly every nation had very good team in the early 2000's and there were more individial talents for whom it was worth sitting in front of the TV. After everything changed...

WC 2006 was the best World Cup ever: It was full of Champions such as Zidane, Pirlo, Ronaldo, Ballack, Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Robben.... also everybody could recognize almost all the champions of the teams, also, there were Amazing goals and spectacular games such as Germany-Italy 0-2 and Argentina-Serbia 6-0 and so on...

Another suggestion after this wonderful series could you concentrate on the great European cup winning teams i.e Real Madrid 1955-1960
Benfica 1960s
Ajax 1970s
Bayern Munich 1970s
Liverpool 1977-84
Milan late 1980s

Could you make one about the 86' World Cup in Mexico, many have said that was really one of the best ones!

Thank you so much for this channel... For a football fanatic like me, and millions out there this is just amazing. I'm only 24 and missed out on so much, like World cups back in the day and special moments, and umaxit gives me a chance to experience them. This is the best channel on Youtube. Cheers from Sweden!

Brazil has always succeeded with disclipined defence and an organised midfield. People forget the 70 team with Pele even though was very mobile and fluid they were fit and organised. The middle was tight and Tostao was disciplined in the lines. No team can fully succeed with a star who doesnt get dirty.

before, up until the world cup 2002, most teams were playing to win, now 15 years later, which it all started in the mid 2000s, with the double defensive midfielders, most reams play not too loose.

For the 2010 World Cup could you talk about New Zealand and how they were unbeaten?

2:33 they had to adjust as well. Because Ronaldo in 2002 wasn't at his explosive best like he was going into 1998. He missed the most part of 3 seasons with knee injuries and operations. And yet despite all that he scored 8 goals, the most in a single World Cup tournament since 1970
