I used to work for a "for profit" trade school. In order for us to qualify to receive federal student loans for our students, we had to show a high graduation rate, prove that our student could actually earn enough money with their education to pay back their student loans, have at least a 95% placement rate with an employer, and provide lifetime job placement assistance.
Why can't we expect our colleges and universities to do the same?

I honestly can't understand why young people are wasting their lives and money on useless degrees.

best way to "fix" the college tuition/stupid degree problem would be to make the college co sign the student loan. that way, if the student cannot find a job to repay the loan, it is the college that gave them the stupid degree that has to eat the loss.
