Is it true that American schools actually have security guards and lockdown drills? Even in the stab-happy UK where knife crime is a big problem, there is nothing like this. The only security guard is a depressed assistant head teacher who is just waiting to reach the pension age.

Not just true in Germany, it's true for almost the whole world EXCEPT the US.

It’s funny though, because even though there isn’t any security or lockdowns I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone try to sneak in 💀

When Americans think it's weird the rest of the world DOESN’T have security in schools 🤦

The best way I can put it into perspective for Americans, did a school shooting ever happen it would be my nations biggest news story for the year, if not the decade by far, and if it somehow happened to a point where we would need police and security at school, I can’t imagine a world where the whole nation wouldn’t grind to a halt, until it is fixed, it is actually insane that you guys somehow think it needs to be a normal thing in life.

Huge governmental differences between the US and Germany.

As an American, I’ve never walked into a school with a security check. I guess it depends where you live. We do have lock down drills though. It’s not just for “school shooters”, but also for threats outside or inside the school. I remember in elementary school we had a lock down because a (from what I remember) strange man was walking outside the school trying to get in.

In Denmark one can actually go through some pre-school playgrounds as a normal walking street, the gates only close after classes are over.

Fun to see the little ones playing while you carry your groceries back home.

The security in my school is there to stop students skipping school or making sure they got punishment for being late😅😅

In the UK we only have Sharon at reception that hates you because you were late to your maths mock once in yr10 and now you're finishing second year of sixth form

as an american living in a city, we have to put our bags through the x-ray machine thingy and walk through a metal detector every day. The fact that you can just walk in seems crazy to me

As a german I find 12 school shootings in the 21th century alarming. During the whole 20th century we had 5. 5 in hundred years versus 12 in 24 years is alarming.

I was studying in Germany and I participated in a program where we visited local high schools and told them about our country. The teacher just told me where her classroom was and when to show up and I just walked straight up to the classroom with no challenges. When I explained the difference with schools in the US, she immediately said " like in a prison"

Meanwhile here in Asia, schools have security guards to keep students from skipping school😂

Kids in Germany also don't have unimpeded access to AR-15s though.

Canada is the same way. The receptionist is pretty much our security here. You walk in your greeted and will be either escorted or your child will be called.
