The glass did not scratch from the laminated floor itself (it is not hard enough for that), but probably some dirt particles on it, which get brought in the house when you go out. There is all kinds of stuff that you can carry into your home without even knowing, because it is so small. It could've been a metal shaving, a tiny rock piece, even sand.

But I agree there is something wrong with today's "tempered glass" on electronics. I have never in my life managed to scratch (real) glass with day-to-day stuff, in fact the only way to scratch glass (and cut it) is with a special tool designed for that, the tip is made from silicon carbide or real/artificial diamond, literally the hardest materials known to man. Yet I hear daily of scrached phone screens, something doesn't add up.

I can tell you another story - I work in a metal shop and my phones are regularly showered with sparks (from angle grinders, etc.) or literal molten metal (from plasma cutters, etc.) and I have never had an issue, because all my phones had gorilla glass (up to 5, donno about the new Victus). Even molten steel droplets are not able to harm tempered glass and you can safely blow them away with compressed air later. My last phone, a Moto G52, came with NEG glass, which Motorola hid for quite a while before admitting it btw, and that thing MELTED when the phone got sprayed with sparks from a nearby plasma cutter. It got tiny holes in it, maybe not all the way through, but enough to scratch your fingers when you try using the phone. Last Motorola phone I will ever buy, at least until they bring back Gorilla glass, that is. I bet that NEG "glass" is not even glass anymore, no glass melts like that, it has to be plastic.

So yea, don't trust "ratings" and "specs", especially when you make your money with that tablet; maybe if you have experience with the same glass type from previous models you can, that's up to you. If you are not sure, slap a tempered glass protector just to be sure, even if it somehow gets scratched, you can easily replace that.

so the moral of this video is: if you don't want scratches on your tablets, don't make kids.

I've got the spigen tempered glass screen protector for the tab s8 ultra installed on my Tab S9 Ultra and it has worked brilliantly for me for the last 2 Weeks. S Pen 🖊 feels as smooth as ever! No problem at all. I didn't even have to increase the touch sensitivity. I would definitely recommend doing the same thing to everybody else.
Kind regards
Willi

My favorite are tempered glass protectors and use them on all tablets and phones for the past seven plus years after learning the painful lessons you just did. I always get the ones that come in packs of two or three because eventually they’ll get scratched or cracks. Better the screen protector gets broken than the glass of the unit.

having kids is a very relevant factor when it comes to deciding if you need a screen protector. I got my tab s6 lite for a couple years now and the screen is completely scratchless.

In India we do have Matte Glass Screen protectors so basically you get that paper like texture along with glass protection and it doesn't leave marks if I use apple pencil on my iPad, also I don't think Samsung tablets will get that much affected either since it works on Wacom's magnetic pen technology so as long as it's near the display it should work, the electromagnetic spring mechanism inside the pen and the extra layer underneath the display which detects the pen pressure and hovering can still recognise it even after glass protection applied

Unfortunately sand and dirt causes scratches and micro-abrasions quite easily. I don't think I want to use my Tab S9U until I get a screen protector for it.

Moral of the story is. No matter what screen protector, with kids nothing is safe 😭😂

Have used matte screen protector on tab S7+ and s6 lite. S pen nibs last only a few days on these. I switched to a glass protector on the lite and no noticeable performance change with either the s pen or the staedtler noris. On my iPad 9 gen, use a glass protector. Apple pencil works as per normal.

Oh that is unfortunate. My s9u haven't arrived yet but I already bought the accessories including a Ringke tempered glass protector, now I just hope the installation goes well :)

In all honesty, to make a tablet kids' safe, vendors would need make one of those rugged versions for devices to be used on the mountain or for construction workers... My S7 FE had some nasty falls from much higher and it is surprising undamaged yet (touching wood...). It even has fallen over regular (not wooden) floor (from the bed!!). But probably it was just luck.
Are these protectors healthy to rest your palm and fingers on for several hours per day? Even the cheapo brands? I have one specific for the S7 FE, but never got around to putting it...

I use a tempered glass screen protector on my Tab S7 Plus and have not noticed any difference in pen or touchscreen performance. Thanks for the video!

I use Supershieldz Tempered Glass Screen protecter on my Galaxy Tab S9+, and my stylus seems to work just fine. No lag or any other issues I have encountered yet.

Thank you! Link for the removable matte cover that you use, please?

It's seems the harder the glass, the easier it is to scratch/crack - the samsung matte screen protector 'not the book cover you reviewed' I'm quite happy with, it's very thin and not overly matte that it effects picture quality 🎉

I like the feel of matte screen protectors on my Tabs, and on my 2 in one, it gives a Cintiq grip feel to me. BTW I view my tablets as a tool. All I care about is the drawing experience. Good experience, good art!
