Going into my 7th year of retirement, here are the things I've learned and wish I'd known...7 years ago! No major regrets, just some helpful advice to minimize stress if....like me...you're an income investor. After selling my home last year I made a bit of a windfall & over the past year have steadily invested my gain into BDC's, CEF's, ETF's, REIT's & a few single dividend stocks. I am only in my 40's but as frugal as I live I prefer freedom over having to work. I likely will take a part time job & explore what I really want to do but it feels good to know I have income on my own terms. It is frustrating not having people in your own family who understand you when you discuss these investment alternatives. Everyone believes in the standard "financial advisor". I believe many of them are simply sales people who do not have your best interest at heart. It's more important than ever to educate yourself & take control of your own finances. It would be nice if there were meetups where like minded investors could congregate.

Ive worked at perhaps the best and biggest fund company for the past 24 years and am about to retire next year at 46. Would have never used or considered the options raised on this channel before as they dint show up in my world, but very glad i did. I like how you give information (and opinion) without pushing an agenda. Im starting to buy some of the holdings ive learned about to get my feet wet and better understand what my tax situation will look like. Will ramp up more as i go. Cheers!

Holy moly, you're speaking my language. I get a lot of flak on the fora I frequent for several reasons connected to your points. Chasing safe & high yield, making mistakes (like, why can't I try something new that might actually result in a loss - what better way to learn what not to do 😂). Anyway, you've earned a brand new subscriber. I plan to retire at the end of the year, with a smaller portfolio than conventional wisdom prescribes.

You should consider doing a side channel about about your travels. There is probably a lot of overlap between people interested in income investing and people interested in spending a lot of time abroad. I know that I would tune in.

Excellent to hear because that is what I am doing now, positioning my portfolio for high income because I plan to retire in two years. And I have learned a lot over the past year, firing my financial adviser and managing my investments myself. I discovered I was paying for nothing and could do a much better job managing my finances and protecting my wealth. Of course, learning about investments and strategies and testing those strategies before retirement is vital. This channel has been beneficial.
