0:18 The truth about chicken
6:40 Beef vs. chicken
7:40 Check out this video on beef!

Let’s talk about chicken. Chicken is the most genetically manipulated animal protein that you can consume, and there are consequences when you alter the natural process of growing a chicken.

Chickens are typically raised in a very inhumane and unhealthy environment. Many issues with the chicken you buy from the store are present because of the conditions the chicken was raised in.

Store-bought chickens even have added coloring, which is used to make them look healthy and appetizing. But, the need for this coloring can be traced back to the chicken’s environment.

Another big problem with chicken is that it’s very high in omega-6 fatty acids, which means it’s very inflammatory. Chickens are also fed inflammatory ingredients, like used cooking oil, that is in chicken feeds. This contributes to chicken meat being inflammatory.

Chicken is also low in nutrition. When comparing beef and chicken, beef is much more nutrient-dense and contains less omega-6 fatty acids.

0:18 Chicken is the most genetically manipulated animal protein that you can consume. Chickens are grown 65 times faster than they should these days.
1:34 You've heard and seen people eat raw fish (sushi) and rare steak, but why don't people ever eat raw or rare chicken meat? Because of the risks of salmonella, campylobacter and e coli. They also add flavor and color to the chicken as well.
4:07 Chicken is very high in Omega-6 fatty acids compared to its Omega-3 fatty acids (14 to 1) which makes it more inflammatory. The ideal ratio is 1 to 1.
4:30 They feed chickens yellow grease (aka used cooking oil) which we indirectly consume.
6:37 Beef vs Chichken:
B12: 2.64 mg (43%) vs 0.3 mg (5%)
Zinc: 6.31 mg vs 1.94 mg
Iron: 2.6 mg (14%) vs 1.26 mg (5%)
Potassium: 318 mg 223 mg
Choline: 82.4 mg vs 65.9 mg
Folate: 7.1 mg vs 2.9 mg
Omega-6 to Omega-3 ration for grass-fed beef is 2 to 1, grain-fed beef is 9 to 1 vs chicken which is 14 to 1.

I am pescatarian. I know and I eat small fish like sardines and salmon mainly. So happy to know. So good to know that you grow your eggs and care for your chicken.

That’s why you have to get, organic Pasture raised eggs and chicken. The one thing I noticed right away when I switched to organic pasture raised in eggs was the color of the yolk and the flavor of the chicken . Like you said you get what you pay for

This was spot on! I learned about the Cornish Cross breed of chicken that we eat in this country when we raised them for a 4H project. They were not normal. They grew so fast that their feathers could not fill out and so they had bald patches of skin, they were bred to just eat and eat and lay around, and if not butchered by about six to eight weeks they will die of heart attacks and/or break their legs because of the weight they carry from growing so fast. When on display at the fair, people were horrified at their appearance and bald patches of skin, and we put up signs to explain that this is the chicken raised and eaten in this country and why they look this way. We as a society are so disconnected from our food and what the true cost of food should be. These chicks also cannot reproduce on their own and that is not normal; their quality of life is horrible. Also, there is no dark meat on these chickens and the meat lacks flavor as you mentioned in the video. This whole experience was eye opening and pretty sobering. We now raise a slow growing breed of chicken or just butcher older laying hens. We are eating what the animals that we consume are eating (you also address this in the video). This type of knowledge needs to become a lot more common place. Thank you for addressing this.

In Japan, they treat their chickens like royalty. The feed that those chickens eat is so high quality that not only can you eat their eggs raw, but the taste is much better as well.

The most expensive and high quality eggs that they have over there have red/orange yolks and are said to taste rich and sweet without even adding seasoning.

Essentially, these eggs are super eggs because they put in the effort to taking care of the chickens that laid them.

I think intermittent fasting and buying only the best quality food from local farmers is possibly the best way to stay healthy.

Ok, got it. My priority is 1) fish (salmon and sardines), 2) beef and lamb, 3) Very little chicken until I grow my own. And always with lots of home grown greens and herbs with local fresh olive oil. On the side - Eggs, Goats milk Kifer, sauerkraut, ACV and lemons. Nuts, berries & avocado for treats.

Very interesting video. I've worked in a meat processing plant myself in the Netherlands for a couple months when I was younger. We only dealt with chicken. The location I worked at processed the already slaughtered chicken, done in another location, into supermarket-ready products. I have never seen any of the practices you bring up, but that must be because of very strict regulations concerning food in this country. I have noticed chicken tasting different when traveling though.

A friend of mine from MX told me she couldn’t eat the chix in the U.S. for many years when she moved here because it made her sick and wondered why it tasted so terrible. Now I know why! I was raised on orange yolk eggs from our own chickens and a majority of the eggs in the U.S. stores don’t even kinda resemble them.

I know a nurse in Thailand and asked her about Salmonella and she didn't know what it was. When I described undercooked 🐔 chicken sickness, she said it doesn't exist there. She never heard of someone gettng sick from chicken at all. I found that very interesting. Nice video as always sir.

Spot on.. I have been avoiding birds for a while now and noticed a decrease in inflammatory responses.. among other things. The 1 to one ratio of Omega 6 and 3 is something most do not know or follow. Thanks as always Doc..

This explains a lot. I feel much better the next day after beef than I do chicken.

Thank you Dr Berg. I learn so much from you. The luxury we have when it comes to our food is that we don't get to see how it's made. We receive it all nicely packaged at the grocery store without having to think about how it got there. Ignorance allows us to eat without guilt.

Hey Dr. Eric there are so many videos you make on what not to eat... Clearly there is a lot of toxic stuff out there. Would be awesome if you could make a video on WHAT TO EAT, especially when on keto. Seems like there isn't much to eat left on this planet! Please make this video whenever possible. Much appreciated. And thanks for all the info, love your work and dedication!
