Why You Shouldn’t Wash Raw Chicken

Just like many other foods, raw chicken should be washed before it's prepared, right? The government says no way. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is warning people not to rinse their raw bird meat before throwing it on a pan. "Don’t wash your raw chicken! Washing can spread germs from the chicken to other food or utensils in the kitchen," the agency wrote on Twitter last month. This sent social media into a frenzy. So what's the proper way to handle raw chicken? #InsideEdition

What if you accidentally drop it and it lands in dog poop? Should I just cook it without washing first?

Look at all of the future Darwin Award winners in the comment section because they stubbornly refused to give up chicken washing and died of salmonella or E. coli.

Calm the water down jeez man. And wash the utensils too if they come in contact with the bacteria.

Just wash those utensils that came into contact with the chicken...

Who washes chicken like that... Don't listen to them. Use a bowl and soak in lemon and vinegar water and disinfect your sink. Smh

I always wash my chickens then I tie a string to its leg and swing it around around in circles until it is dry.

I remember asking my mama why did she wash raw chicken. She said to kill the germs. My smart mouth behind was like isn't it killed when you cook it. Never got an answer except to stay in a child's place. Now I feel vindicated. Haha

Maybe you just don’t put the sink on full setting spraying the germs everywhere

man turn down the sink... or clean around the sink right after you wash your chicken...

The only time I've seen chicken have water run over it is when it's being thawed. Afterwards, you sanitize the sink before you put any other food or utensil in it.

I already knew this but still prefer to wash the chicken in lime or vinegar (just a little) then clean the area after with like bleach or hot water

Simple solution. If you want to wash your chicken then wash it. If you don’t want to wash it then DON’T wash it. We’re not going to be eating at each other’s dinner table anyways. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I find it contradicting how people wash their chicken but don't wash beef or steak even though they both have bacteria. yes, just keep being illogical and take personal offense to this recommendation...
