6 Kick - 3 Stroke - 6 Kick Drill for Freestyle. This is a great "transition" drill especially for short & mid-distance freestylers. We use it often to transition from Stop & Pop drill to swimming technique. The goal is to stay connected through both arms. After the 3 strokes in a row, pause with the hand above the shoulder during the recovery or at the end of the pull (shown here). Once you've done a few kicks in this position (pulling arm out front), throw the recovering hand to the surface HARD. The most important part is that you don't let the recovery hand "catch up" to the pulling hand. That means you must initiate your catch the moment you start to throw the recovering arm forward. Give this drill a shot & let us know how it goes!

Love this drill! Any advice on how to prevent shoulder damage when working on speeding up the rotation?

Why do you have to do such a hard arm?
