High Octane freestyle drills

Stop & Pop: We love this drill to work on all sorts of things but especially high octane technique. The goal is to stop your arm mid-recovery for 6 to 12 kicks then throw that hand hard while initiating the pull with the lead arm.

6-3-6 Drill (6 kicks - 3 strokes - 6 kicks): this is a great progression drill to continue with Stop & Pop. The concept is still the same - we want to pause and throw the hand far and hard. The only thing that changes is that we follow it up with 2 more fast strokes before we pause in the recovery position again. We often see swimmers flatten out and lose some of their reach on the second and third stroke - we want to avoid that. That's why we use this drill to transition from a great stop & pop technique to a full-on sprint freestyle stroke.
