A tampon is a menstrual product designed to absorb blood and vaginal secretions by insertion into the vagina during menstruation. Unlike a pad, it is placed internally, inside of the vaginal canal.[1] Once inserted correctly, a tampon is held in place by the vagina and expands as it soaks up menstrual blood. However, in addition to menstrual blood, the tampon also absorbs the vagina's natural lubrication and bacteria, which can change the normal pH, increasing the risk of infections from the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus, which can lead to toxic shock syndrome (TSS).[1][2] TSS is a rare but life-threatening infection that requires immediate medical attention.[3]A menstrual pad, or simply pad, (also known as a sanitary pad, sanitary towel, sanitary napkin or feminine napkin) is an absorbent item worn by women in their underwear when menstruating, bleeding after giving birth, recovering from gynecologic surgery, experiencing a miscarriage or abortion, or in any other situation where it is necessary to absorb a flow of blood from the vagina. A menstrual pad is a type of menstrual hygiene product that is worn externally, unlike tampons and menstrual cups, which are worn inside the vagina. Pads are generally changed by being stripped off the pants and panties, taking out the old pad, sticking the new one on the inside of the panties and pulling them back on. Pads are recommended to be changed every 3–4 hours to avoid certain bacteria that can fester in blood; this time also may differ depending on the kind worn, flow, and the time it is worn.[1]

Menstrual pads are made from a range of materials, differing depending on style, country of origin, and brand.[2] The pads are not the same as incontinence pads, which generally have higher absorbency and are worn by those who have urinary incontinence problems. Although menstrual pads are not made for this use, some use them for this purpose. Menstruation (also known as a period, among other colloquial terms) is the regular discharge of blood and mucosal tissue from the inner lining of the uterus through the vagina. The menstrual cycle is characterized by the rise and fall of hormones. Menstruation is triggered by falling progesterone levels and is a sign that pregnancy has not occurred.

The first period, a point in time known as menarche, usually begins between the ages of 12 and 15.[1] Menstruation starting as young as 8 years would still be considered normal.[2] The average age of the first period is generally later in the developing world, and earlier in the developed world.[3] The typical length of time between the first day of one period and the first day of the next is 21 to 45 days in young women. In adults, the range is between 21 and 31 days with the average being 28 days.[2][3] Bleeding usually lasts around 2 to 7 days. Periods stop during pregnancy and typically do not resume during the initial months of breastfeeding.[2] Menstruation stops occurring after menopause, which usually occurs between 45 and 55 years of age.

I prefer pads because they’re more safe when you go to bed

And easy to remove while tampons you have to be careful of not breaking the string or risk of getting toxic syndrome

While I am not a menstruator, I believe pads are more comfortable and more effective. I have asked many people and they all prefer pads over other menstrual products.

I personally only use tampons when I need to swim or I wouldn’t have time to change it so often during the day, but if not I mostly prefer pads! But it everyone’s preference, pads and tampons are both great options! ❤

Have to say tampons are 1000 times better than pads. Switched to tampons and now i dont use pads anymore as it is so comfortable to wear and also super easy once you get used to it. If any woman/girl is watching this i recommend to start using. Its irritation free, it doesn't feel uncomfortable like pads as tampons go inside the vagina so you dont have to bother about the bleeding. Its a Saviour for me.
