Hey this is definitely better than going with whatever plan the builder gives you and then filling it with stuff from home depot that you found on sale lol.

The closer a home is to being a square the less the building materials. A 40x40 home is 1600sqft with perimeter walls of 160 linear ft. Think of the costs for 2x4's OSB boards and drywall that are 4' wide.
Now consider the same 1600sqft in a rectangle let's say 20x80. It has 200 linear feet or 40 more linear feet of exterior and interior materials you have to pay for.
If you need roof trusses in your design then a square home might cost more in roofing materials and trusses. I'm planning an adobe style with a flat roof so that isn't an issue.
I plan to build out of styrofoam panels, not SIP panels nor styrofoam blocks but styrofoam sheets 11" thick. There are builders in Arizona that have built this way for 40 years.
They cover the styrofoam with a special stucco made of super strong concrete 1/2" thick that makes the building super tough.

We're planning to build a two-story house with most of the bedrooms on the second floor. We would like to have a 3/4 bath on the first floor and was wondering if a space of 7 x 5 was large enough for a 3/4 bath. Any thoughts?

I'm going to watch each of your videos intently. I want to make an amalgamation of a barn colonial home with conical roof and spiral staircase with no center support. Then make a hedge maze in the yard. I'm starting to think this will be much better than buying a home.
