2021 Hyundai Ioniq 5 review – the coolest family EV so far?

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 may look like it's driven straight out of some sci-fi Cyberpunk game, but it's actually a hugely practical electric family car… and it might be my favourite real-world EV so far. Join me for a quick walkaround of its huge cabin and a drive to give you my first impressions

I own a Hyundai Kona Electric, which I love, but this is the vehicle of my dreams. It’s quite brilliant, in almost every way, from the styling to the interior space, from the astonishing charging speed (admittedly, next to useless until the infrastructure catches up) to the safety tech. I really want one, but can’t justify it right now, alas.

I pick mine up on Friday. I looked at various makes last month, the new VW, Skoda, MB, BMW and checked out the i-Pace but the Ioniq was the car for me as saw it. The test drive sealed it.

I've just found your channel after browsing for this car review (I've watched about 10 for this car now, I love it). Well done on doing something slightly different. It's good to hear the occasional swear word, and just being natural. It makes you far more approachable and true to life. Keep it up. This car has a 400/800 volt architecture so on a 350 kwh charger can add 62 miles in 5 mins, and do 10% to 80% charge in approx 18 mins same kind of tech as a porsche taycan, also has VTL (vehicle to Load) capabilities (on the top models) that give you 3.6kwh output from internal 3 pin plug centre of the rear seats and it has an adapter for the same using the outside charging socket. Although it has no wiper on the rear, you can turn on the rear camera display on the infotainment screen to give a rear view. Cannot wait for my Ioniq 5 (P45) due to arrive in the UK on the 29th of

Big balls on Hyundai agreed, will it endure over a 3/4year production run, hard to say, will resale fall through floor, hopefully not, it’s great to see such a calculated gamble made by a manufacturer, good review as always

Loved the video and your style of delivery. Went ahead and ordered a dual motor one because this is my first EV venture after being a proper petrol die hard. Still got a little vintage cayman in the garage just in case 😁

you missed to mention the crazy fast charging times thanks to the 800v architecture.. that makes up for the slightly shorter range. this car is growing on me very quickly. great review!
