After taking this car over 4000km down the east coast of Canada and back in the middle of winter, it's time to review Hyundai's IONIQ 5 EV.

Disclaimer: Hyundai Canada provided the vehicle to me for the duration of this trip and covered a small portion of the trip's cost in the form of lodgings for 5 days, but I was not paid to produce these videos or the review.

I've already put in my deposit after looking at different EV options, watching lots of reviews. I think it's refreshing to watch a review from a tech reviewer. No one has mentioned the screen brightness/responsiveness and I appreciate that. Great review!

The remote control forward/backward on the key fob is a great feature for wheelchair users like myself!

We're just about at 5000 km with our Preferred RWD LR, and the biggest issues we have with it is the lack of forward facing parking sensors, side cameras.
Driving wise, it's the perfect hwy car. It is sprung pretty well, but does wallow a bit over bigger bumps, soaking them up, but clearly being more on the comfy side than sporty.
Range-wise, we've seen the same during the winter, but now that it's over 10C we're seeing in the 13-17kWh/100km, which pushes the range back towards 450ish total, and that's driving on 401/427/DVP.

Most beautiful EV car ever done until now. I fell completely in love with the futuristic retro vibe it has, the second I saw it for the first time.
Too bad that it's way too expensive for me. 😐🙁

I'm growing more and more intrigued by the Ioniq 5, and your thorough, practical, balanced review tells me it is well worth my consideration when it comes time to let go of my Model 3.

Great review! As a Montanan, I especially appreciate the real-world review of its wintertime capabilities/downsides. I think this affects all EVs and I'm seriously considering buying one of these!
P.S. Here's a novel idea for killing time at the charging station: Read a book. I'm showing my age, I know, but... ;)

Hi Mark!
I just purchased a 2024 Ionic 5. I am very pleased with this vehicle. I love the style. It is so easy to charge.
Watching your video helped give me the confidence to buy my first EV!
Thank you!

I always thought it was a weird car until I saw it live.
It's STUNNING, definitely a statement car!

I was driving a Tesla Model Y when I happened upon a Hyundai Ionic5. I pulled up and drove on its left and then back and right and gave them a thumbs up! The Hyundai Ionic5 looks incredible and feels very well made. I hope the range is great and I will likely buy a Hyundai Ionic5 in the future (hopefully there's no dealershit nonsense)

Snow handling is almost entirely dependant on tire compound. I switch from stock eco michelins to a proper winter set, makes a world of difference in safety.

All seasons can get you through some snow but there is a significant gap between dedicated winter tires.

My limited lucid blue arrived on April 2, two weeks early and I’ve put 600 miles on it. Easily the funnest and best car I’ve purchased and that’s coming from someone who just got rid of a 2021 tlx to buy it. I absolutely love my car.

Yup, planning on selling my model 3 here in a few months as soon as I have enough money to buy the Ioniq5. Literally cannot wait, the hype around this car still doesn't meet how awesome this car is. Best EV on the road right now!

One thing I’d like to point out, vented seats means that just fans put ambient air thru it, ac/cooled seats means exactly that, cooler ac air goes thru them.
Great car either way!

We preordered one at the beginning of March and was told by the local dealership to expect delivery around October. Not sure if you have a similar ETA, but I can say that I did test drive one and was blown away by how good it was. As for charging, I expect the Ioniq 5 has not been added to certain of the networks. My understanding is that they have electronic identifiers that need to be added to the chargepoints for the full 350kw. I expect Petro Canada, Electrify Canada, among other have not updated their chargepoints with the Ioniq 5 electronic identifiers, capping the chargepoint at 150kw. I could be wrong though, but I bought it fully expecting the charging to get better over time. Great review and looking forward to seeing some videos of your own Ioniq 5!

I didn't really like this design when I first saw it, but after seeing the NV74 (Hyundai's sexy 1974 Pony inspired rolling lab), this design has _really_ grown on me.
Also, having a lighter colour for an interior option is nice for Southern Canadian summers. My current vehicle, a 2008 Honda Civic, gets turned into an oven when it's sunny out. Maybe the lighter colour will reduce the overall inside temperature.

Currently, the AWD Long Range package is around $60000CAD. The price _should_ go down in a few years for future models due to the supply chain relaxing a little.

We have the Executive Plus version (lower spec than this) and it's a cracking car! I especially love the Highway Driver Assist on long journeys. The only thing I'm complaining is no cubby spaces in the boot (trunk), I had to buy a storage box for that.

Yup, no rear wiper is a mistake, one which I hope Hyundai will correct….quickly. Great review Mark.
